The Beginner’s Guide to Website Development

In this era of advancement, nearly everything requires a great online presence. As the use of the internet increases, people start depending on it more. How brands organize their websites and visuals, affects consumers’ ideas about them. So, it is important to develop a good website.

So, should you do it yourself? Or do you need a team for that?

Well, it doesn’t matter much. If you know it properly, you can work on it yourself. But for that, you must know every bit of website development.

Don’t worry; you don’t need to take classes for that. The following discussion will provide initial information about web and mobile development.

What Is Website Development?

Web development refers to building and developing a website for the internet. It makes a website appear nice, function, and provide a positive user experience.

Web developers build a website using various coding languages, testing, and technologies. Also, the size of the website depends on the projects and requirements.

Types of Web Development

There are 3 different types of web development; let’s know about them in detail. :

Front-end Web Development

The front-end web development fixes your website’s visual appeal, including the colors, types, icons, and images. It decides how it would appear on your devices, like your computer screens, tabs, and mobile phones.

Back-end Web Development

A website receives its power from back-end web development. This code creates a connection between the website and the server, ensuring proper data flow to the website and correct transaction processing.

Full-stack Web Development

The terms “front end” and “back end” are both in full-stack web development. A full-stack developer may be in charge of all aspects of a website’s development, from the server side to the user interface, depending on how complicated the website is.

The Website Development Process

As you know about the website developments in detail., now it’s time to know the process of it.

1. Establish the Project

Defining your project’s goals is the first stage in the website-building process. These include:

  • Business details: Describe your product or service, mission, vision, and USP (unique selling point)
  • Business goals: Create the best approach for your website, and establish clear and exact goals, along with the KPIs you’ll use to assess the performance.
  • Target audience: Know your target market and research them to learn more about their preferences, likes, dislikes, behaviors, and other aspects.
  • Competition: Develop a strategy to put your brand on the market after researching your competitors and learning about their strengths and limitations.

2. Create a Plan for Your Website

Define your website’s design, including the homepage’s layout, product pages, and other crucial conversion points.

For this, you will need:

  • A sitemap: A sitemap gives visitors a good idea of your website and the pages about their location and connection. It helps define and organize your web content, allowing your strategist and designer to plan better for each page’s appearance, feel, and operation.
  • A wireframe: The wireframe shows the design of each page of your website. The material’s structure includes headings, CTAs, and subscription boxes. Mobile and desktop versions are also included here.

3. Design Your Website

Afterward, proceed to the user interface (UI) design phase to add your branding and finalize the appearance. Define every aspect of your branding, including your color scheme, logo, icon, pictures, and videos you are using.

These branding components should be consistent across all platforms, including your website, social network pages, promotional items, newsletters, etc. Your brand’s visual identity will become more recognizable due to consistent design.

4. Create Relatable Content

Planning and creating content are important steps in the website creation process. The following examples of content development are the ones, which will also depend on your target audience:

  • Landing pages
  • Newsletters
  • White papers
  • Product/service descriptions
  • Testimonials
  • Social media posts
  • Videos
  • Images
  • Case studies
  • Blog posts.

Based on who you want to reach, develop your content. Find out what kind of material is most likely to engage and connect with them. You can check where they spend most of their time.  Respond to your potential consumers’ by searching queries and influencing their purchasing decisions, and strategically place keywords throughout your content.

5. Develop Your Website

When you have established your objectives, developed your design, made your branding components, and set a content strategy, it’s time for development. You must build your website using best practices, thorough specification documents, and the help of backend and frontend developers.

Design your website to expand and match your growth, from the platform you select to the various features and functionalities. The experts will create your website based on various variables – your industry, offering, target demographic, and more.

6. Check Your Website

Your website should be tested before going live. Your developers must find all the components functional on your website. Ensure that everything is working properly by finding any problems – broken links and device compatibility.

Get a reviewer to ensure the site is responsive on all devices, test the site’s speed, and see if the code complies with standards. Your website will be ready to launch after the manual and automated testing phases finish successfully.

7. Take Care of the Maintenance.

Great job; your site is ready to launch now!

However, the work is not yet done. As your business expands, you will need to add more pages, functionality, features, and other things. It includes:

  • Fixing bugs and issues
  • Adding content
  • Dosing site backups
  • Editing existing content
  • Installing plugins
