If you are a beginner or professional in pottery, then I am going to share new experiences on how to get it done. It is not easy if you want to know for sure.
Let me share my personal experience with you about how I started pottery classes.
How did I start?
Well, the first time I encountered pottery was when my parents brought me to the Singapore Art Museum. It is a long story back in time since I am only 14 years old and this certain event happened in 2011. Since then I began my interest with pottery and continue to discover more about it until now. Back then, I was not sure whether I will be serious into arts or go deeper into pottery like making ceramic mugs or anything that will help me in the future.
My parents noticed my interest in pottery and started to support me on this journey of self-discovery. One day I was introduced by one of my friends at school to join some pottery class near his house with a fee around SGD$100 per month because he saw that I have serious interests with pottery and wanted to go deeper.
I followed him and went down to the shop near his house and started learning Terracotta pottery. I was really interested in how this art form starts from scratch, where they get their clay from, shaping it into a tiny planter or miniature pot so they can burn them into pieces after that. I was amazed!
Another experience I had when I went to my relative who lives in Jurong West. She is working for this pottery studio and she recommends me to join their Embers Studio there, where they teach how to make terracotta pottery by yourself so you can be creative with your own style.
I was really excited to know about this opportunity. I told my parents about this and they agreed on it because at that time, they wanted me to learn more than just pottery itself but how the whole process of making clay into beautiful arts.
My first experience of learning pottery at the Singapore Art Museum taught me why people used to do it using traditional methods rather than machines. It was really fun and interesting to see the process of making clay into pottery, although it takes months or even years to finish each one by hand.
My second experience at Jurong West Embers Studio taught me everything about their art form called “Terracotta Pottery.” I learned how to make planters, decorate them with art and glaze to make it shine like a diamond! I was really amazed with everything that I learned about the course.
I then decided to share this experience with others who are really into arts or want to explore more skills outside their comfort zone so you can enjoy this journey together. So, let’s get started on this experience!
