Are you wondering how to best advertise your bookkeeping services?
You can have the best bookkeeping services in the world, but if you don’t take your advertising seriously, your company won’t exist by this time next year.
Harsh? Yes. True? Also yes.

Know Your Audience
Before you get into creating marketing campaigns, you’re going to need to know who your audience is.
You’re likely looking at other business owners and at using B2B marketing techniques. It’s important to remember that while B2B may stand for “business to business,” there are still people on each end of that equation. While you are selling your services to another business, you need to work on reaching the person in charge of buying those services.
So, where to start?
The more specific you can get, the better, but just knowing a general age range and location is a good start.
Once you have an idea of who your audience is, you need to start thinking about what they’re looking for in a bookkeeping service. What’s the best way to reach them? Where do they hang out online?
For example, your audience may be a 35-year-old woman with her own marketing agency who hangs out on LinkedIn and Twitter.
These are things you’ll need to keep in mind when moving on to the next steps.
Market Your Bookkeeping Services on Social
One of the most important things you can do for your bookkeeping business is to make sure you have a social media presence. You don’t need to be on every platform, however.
A good starting point is to create both Facebook and Instagram accounts, as these are two of the more popular platforms for adults. It’s also easier to manage these two because they are both owned by Facebook and you can create and schedule posts straight from your Facebook page.
If you want to get more advanced, you can try your hand at making TikTok content, as well. Another one to keep in mind is Pinterest, especially if you start a blog! Pinterest is actually one of the largest search engines, so it’s important that your content can be found there, as well.
Start a Blog
An easy way to get more traffic to your website (which equates to more clients for your business!) is to start a blog. For example, you could write on topics such as:
- Why someone should hire a professional bookkeeper
- Bookkeeping 101
- Tools bookkeepers use every day
- How to become a professional bookkeeper
- Virtual bookkeeping services
Not only will these blogs give you content you can then share on social media, but they will help you rank better on search engines. Google especially loves fresh content and prioritizes pages.
Create an Email List
Along the same lines as starting a blog, you can also create an email list for clients and prospects through your blog. For instance, you can get signups via a call to action at the bottom of each post.
When you have an email list, you can use that to set up newsletters with important information about your business, but also be able to market directly to people who have already shown that they are interested in what you do.
It’s also a great way to get your current clients engaged. You can also start an incentive program to have current clients refer new people to your newsletter. The incentive can also include referrals for new clients, as well.

Advertise Your Bookkeeping Services Properly
Whether you’re just starting out with one client or you have 100 clients, you can’t skimp when it comes to advertising your bookkeeping services. And you don’t have to just stick with digital advertising, either! You should also consider buying ad spots on the radio, billboards, and events, if your budget permits.
