Small Bedrooms; How To Make The Most Of A Small Space

It’s no secret that due to the ever growing population, humans are running out of space to build big houses. Due to this reason, the trend of compact homes is on the rise and more and more people are opting for it. Small spaces have their benefits as they don’t require much upkeep and it’s perfect for the people who believe in minimalist living. For some, styling and decorating a small room can be challenging so here are a few helpful tips to get you started.

  • Give your headboard a twist

Traditional bedroom furniture tends to consume a lot of space. If there isn’t enough space for a headboard, you can experiment with your bedroom wall décor and paint one of the walls or use wallpaper for a fuller effect. A good quality mattress, sheets and a soft rug will all help to make your room look luxurious despite having a space crunch.

  • Maximize Storage

Utilize the walls, ceiling height, and other available space to maximize storage by including intelligent multi-functional furniture into the design when appropriate. A bedside table with drawers, bed with storage space, mirror on the almirah are all doable. If you have a limited area or are thinking about apartment bedroom designs, custom fitted furniture is a smart alternative.

  • Choose Appropriate Paint

The key is to make the room look more spacious and open. Choosing paint that is as light and warm as possible is important and will not make you feel like the walls are closing in. This, coupled with ample amount of natural or artificial light will make your room seem bigger and comfortable. Opt for whites and warm beiges when it comes to paint colors and have light colored furniture.

  • Swing Your Door Differently

By going a step ahead, you can insert pocket sliding doors in your room and save the space that a door requires to swing inwards. If you have a closet or wardrobe inside your room then this can work for those doors as well and will save you a lot of space. You can utilize that space by placing storage boxes and multifunctional shelves. Although this might not seem like much, in the long run it will make a huge difference to the overall feel of your room.

  • Draw Attention Outwards

Give the room one or two main focal points to direct the viewer’s attention away from the center into the outer regions, such as a striking piece of artwork or patterned wallpaper, or a headboard covered in a beautiful fabric. It only takes one wall to transform a tiny bedroom into something spectacular. In most cases, your feature wall will be the first thing you notice when you walk into a room, but you might choose a bedroom accent wall that is placed behind a crucial piece of furniture, such as behind the bed or the sofa.

The key to a great small bedroom is storage and functionality. If space is limited, having a couple of large, practical pieces of furniture often looks better than a bunch of little ones. Assemble the surrounding furnishings in a way that will allow you enough room to move around freely as well.
