Having unwanted bugs and insects set up shop in your living space can be annoying. Furthermore, your and your family’s health can be at risk. Since these pests usually reside outdoors, they carry various diseases. These diseases can even be life-threatening to humans! Should you find yourself in this situation, you should call a top rated pest control service immediately.

If you find any of the following in your home, seek help and advice from professional pest controllers.

Table of Contents

  • Rodents
  • Mosquitoes
  • Cockroaches
  • Ticks

Rodents

Mice and rats may seem harmless, but they can spread deadly diseases. Hantavirus is one of the most common diseases spread via rat droppings and urine. The virus can be fatal to humans. Additionally, rodents can also be carriers of the plague. Rats were responsible for the mass spread of the bubonic plague in the 1300s. The virus can also spread to your pets who can further transmit the disease to others. While the plague is now treatable with antibiotics, it can still make you severely ill.

Mosquitoes

While mosquitoes require warm temperatures to breed in, you can easily have a mosquito infestation caused by stagnant water. They can become carriers of terminal diseases. Mosquitoes can spread the Zika virus, which normally causes rashes and fever but can be severe in pregnant women. Zika virus can cause brain damage and other bith defects in unborn children.

Mosquitoes can also spread West Nile disease, which is common in the United States. The virus can lead to complications and cause brain infections, such as meningitis. The complications can severely affect brain function. There is no vaccine for it either.

Cockroaches

If you have a cockroach infestation, your home isn’t as hygienic as you thought it was. Cockroaches can reach anywhere, in turn spreading bacteria and germs to every part of your house. They can cause typhoid fever, cholera, leprosy and salmonellosis. All these diseases manifest in the form of fever, diarrhea and joint pain. Similar to rodents, they can carry plague as well.

You do not need to come in direct contact with a cockroach to become infected. Food that has been touched by a cockroach can easily transmit the disease to you.

Ticks

Your dog or cat can bring fleas and ticks unknowingly into your house. Not all ticks spread diseases but there are many who can. Lyme disease is the most commonly reported tick-borne disease in the United States. It is not deadly but can cause long-term symptoms, such as rashes, fever and muscle ache.

The more worrying disease spread by tick bites is tularemia. It is a rare infectious disease that attacks your lymph nodes, lungs, eyes and skin. Once infected, an individual can spread it to others as well. It is a potentially fatal disease in rare cases. But you do not want to get infected with it as it is a long road to recovery.

This can all sound scary, but you should not get worried. Contact pest control today to deal with any pest infestation you may have.
