Rock Steady: Finding The Best Double Bass Drum Pedal

Did you know that over 40,000 new songs are uploaded to Spotify each day? Thanks to new and cheaper recording technology, there has never been an easier time to get into the music business.

If you and your band want to start recording, you know that you need equipment that sounds great and won’t let you down when you are on tour.

If you are a drummer, how do you choose your gear? What do you need to know to select the best Double Bass drum pedal? Why not read on to find out.

An Adjustable Pedal

Finding drum equipment that is adjustable is a high priority. If it is not adjustable, you may find yourself shopping around and spending lots of money until you find the right one that is perfect for your needs.

An adjustable pedal allows you to change the distance between its internal parts. Since you are buying a double pedal this includes the space between the pedals. You should also be able to change the spring tension.

There is a range of adjustable elements in drum kit parts. Sometimes they come with a unique key that you use to make adjustments. Unless this meets your needs exactly, it is often better to choose a kit where you can use general tools. This way if you lose your special key, you can still make adjustments.

Drive Mechanism

When looking for a pedal that can get the best out of your bass drum set, choosing the right drive mechanism is very important. There are three basic mechanisms.

Chain Drive

A bass pedal with a chain drive mechanism provides a great reaction and longevity. However, it does come with some caveats. One is that like all chain systems you will have to maintain it regularly to ensure that it is dustfree and lubricated.

Belt drive

Belt drives provide a very fast reaction time, perfect if you are looking for hard rock or metal sounds. Belts are lighter than chains, which helps when you are on tour. However, belts do not last as long as chains and can even stretch over time.

Direct Drive

This type of drive comes with great longevity and gives a real kick to your bass drum. However, since it is a fixed part, it will not allow for adjustment. If you do not like the sound or it is not comfortable there is not a lot you can do about it.

Each type of drive has its pros and cons, why not test them out in the shop to find out more?

Finding the Balance

Since you are buying a pedal for a double bass drum set, you need to ensure that the pedals are balanced equally. After all, if the balance is off, it will reflect in the sound and one foot will need to work harder than the other.

Ensure that you get a pedal that is either well balanced or adjustable to the balance that you need.

Finding the Double Bass drum pedal and Much More
