Periodontal Disease

The failure of the treatment may lead to heart disease, stroke, or some major oral dental problems. In some cases, it causes lung infection and for pregnant women, it leads to premature birth.

For advanced treatment or typical cases, a Periodontist does a deep-cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing to prevent the gum and teeth from severe damage. In worst cases, the doctor advises choosing Periodontal Surgery.

Periodontists are doctors who complete a five-year General Degree and study a further 3 years of examinations and obtain Post Graduate degree in Periodontist. Further, they are practitioners and apply to a dental board to be a Dental Specialist.

In general, the Periodontist takes at least 7-8 years of full-time study and practice to gain their qualification in the highly selective process. A periodontist is the field of Periodontology that encompasses the treatment of gum diseases, oral surgery procedures and soft tissue problems.

What is periodontal surgery?

The periodontist works closely with the patients and the dentist to evaluate gum issues and oral medicine concerns. A periodontist is a qualified person who has the capability of surgical oral implants. In periodontal surgery, a Periodontist places an artificial root in the jaw as a replacement tooth.

How long does it take for a treatment? 

Based on the appointment with the patient, dentist, and periodontist, the treatment plan will be discussed and implemented in two to four seating based on the medical-dental history of the patient. After that, there will be a review program and an annual gum check-up is prescribed for the prevention of other dental problems. After treatment, maintain the teeth with proper cleaning, flossing, and regular check-up with the dentist for an improved healthy life.
