When you’re getting a new house pet like a cat or a dog, the list of expenses seem to be endless at the beginning. There’s the cost of the animal itself if you bought it from a breeder, and then the food, accessories, leads and collars, food bowls, and more. Well, the truth is that not all pet products are entirely necessary, but one that is definitely needed is a pet bed.
You should purchase cat beds and dog beds at your local stores or online, and find something that can really become like your pet’s own little kingdom. Why do we say any of this? Read on to learn the best reasons all owners should invest in a pet bed.
Both dogs and cats benefit from having their own go-to space. For a cat, a cat bed is like a little sanctuary away from the rest of the house. It has their smell, their toys, and things that carry their familiar scent such as blankets or cushions. The benefits of these things on your cat’s mental well-being can’t be overstated.
For dogs, it too gives them a kind of “home base” in your house or apartment. It’s very useful to be able to send the dog back to their space if they misbehave, or when it’s time for them to stop playing, or for them to be out of the way. It’s comfortable, familiar, and most importantly gives the dog a feeling of safety and security.
Continuing on from the previous point, your pets need a place where when they are sleeping their body weight, joints, neck and so on are properly supported. It’s harder for them to get that in your bed or on the sofa, no matter how much it appears they like to go there. Dog and cat beds are built specifically for those animals, and provide the body support that they need.
Some dog breeds in particular are more prone to joint issues, and so having a properly supportive sleeping space is a critical part of their overall physical health.
A single or even pair of pet beds is easier to clean than having to clean every piece of furniture, your bed, your clothing, rugs, carpets and more. If your pet understands proper boundaries and spends most of their down time in their bed, then that’s a bunch of places that they’re not getting to and putting their hair all over the place.
This can also help you make your house more comfortable for any visiting friends or family who might suffer from pet allergies.
Next, it’s all very cute and lovely when pets sleep on our beds with us. It can make for love Instagram or other social media content. However, when you allow your dog or cat free reign of the sofa, bed or other human furniture, you are inviting them to bring such areas into their own natural territory. If and when the time comes that you want Rex or Milo off the bed, they might start to resist, or feel resentment towards you. Owner-pet relationships are built on proper trust and understanding. Allowing them on the bed most of the time, but then suddenly not will send the wrong message.
Finally, give your pet their own bed so that you and your loved ones can sleep better at night! Dogs and cats will wake through the night, fidgeting in your space and moving around, inevitably waking you or the kids up. In their own bed, they can fidget, stretch, get up and stroll about a bit, and do whatever they want without disturbing the family.
