Questions to Ask Your Home Renovation Professionals

If you have been obsessing over home remodeling shows and videos lately, you probably want to take on one. But, do you know that to start on that makeover journey, you need a reliable renovation contractor in hand, especially if it is a large scale project?

Well, if you haven’t had any experience with home improvement projects earlier, I would like to bring in your notice that remodeling jobs are not as easy-going as interior designing or decorating. Hidden issues residing behind the wall and foundation of the home can quickly become untamable and cause you losses worth in thousands.

It is the knowledge and expertise of the renovation specialists that makes them a crucial part of the project. However, not all individuals pursuing work in this field are created equal. Some can add commendable value to your home, and some can sell their unprofessionalism by offering lower bids – it is up to you what you choose.

Here are a few questions you can ask to make the right decision –

Q1.  What kind of experience do you have in my kind of project?

The level of your contractor’s experience is directly going to impact the quality they deliver. Someone who is an amateur and doesn’t carry enough experience cannot give you the kind of finishing you desire. Every home has its unique challenges, and if your renovation contractor knows how to resolve them, you can feel confident in his work. So, ask about his scope of services and hire the one who is expert at performing jobs similar to yours.

Q2. Can you provide me with references of your past projects?

Well-flourishing contractors take pride in everything they do. They happily share pictures and details of kitchen and bathroom renovations they have worked on and if possible, can even arrange an in-person visit to see the outcomes yourself. That way, you are not left with ambiguity as to whether the results will be satisfactory or not.

Q3. Are you licensed and insured?

Anything short of a firm yes, in this case, is a red flag. Proof of licenses and other certifications are a must to ensure that the contractor you are about to hire is legitimate and permitted to carry out the renovation jobs in the community. Workers’ compensation and liability are also essential so that you are shielded against any loss that happens as a result of the team’s negligence.

Q4. What is the estimated timeline and costing?

Accuracy and precision are the utmost important when comparing different renovation professionals. You do not want any hindrances during the process neither you want the project to surpass your estimated timeline. Once in-home consultation is complete and the scope of work clearly defined, the total costing and duration have to be assessed. This step can take around two to three weeks to produce if the work scale is huge. So, be patient until you receive a response from them. You can then compare it with others.
