Neural Networks – Are They Our Friends or Enemies?

With the development and increasing popularity of neural networks, such as ChatGPT, many people have concerns that one day, artificial intelligence will replace them and take away their jobs. These concerns are understandable – after all, neural networks really do many tasks faster and better than humans. But can they be fully autonomous in their work and deliver quality results without human assistance?

Henry Crosby, CEO of “APP Variantico”, reminds us that AI is just a product made by human hands: “It’s worth remembering that a neural network didn’t just appear out of nowhere with its unique independent intelligence. It’s just a bot that people have loaded with a huge amount of information – millions of files with a wide range of knowledge.”

However, it’s also important to note another important feature of AI – its ability to self-learn. The more a neural network interacts with humans, the better its communication skills become. Thanks to this expansion of its knowledge base, its answers become more accurate, and it better understands what the user wants from it. This is another aspect that vividly demonstrates that the best result is achieved only through teamwork between AI and humans.

Vage Zakaryan, Head of Development at Gem4me, emphasizes that the quality of the result produced by a neural network depends directly on the user’s request. “To get a good text on a given topic, a person must be able to properly describe all the conditions, requirements, and wishes, as well as think through the concept. The idea for an image must also come from a person. A cat-knight or an owl on a horse won’t just appear out of nowhere. There is no equal to human creativity yet.”

Although the threat of global replacement of people by neural networks and massive job loss is not yet foreseen, there have been precedents of mass protests about it. For example, designers were outraged that the use of illustrations made by AI devalues their work, and therefore they believe that the use of such images in photobanks should be banned.

Ann Goldsmith, Creative Director of MultipicStudio LA, is confident that such changes will not harm people. “The abilities of neural networks will help people get rid of boring routine work and leave them more time for creativity. People have always dreamed of this, and now that the opportunity has arisen, we should be happy, not afraid.”

People often perceive everything new as hostile. This was the case during any periods of technological inventions. But over time, when everyone understands how many benefits this invention has brought them, they cannot imagine their life without it.
