Most Effective Website Standards and How to Follow Them

Owning a business is the road to the quintessential American Dream. It has certain freedom tethered to it that makes it so appealing: that and the potential to earn fat stacks.

But, that road has a lot of potholes on its way to your destination. A lot of which can turn that dream opportunity to a nightmare. More than half of small businesses fail before they reach their fifth birthday.

One of the things that those firms lacked was marketable individuality. Express this through a proper site. Follow these website standards to pave your business’ way to success.

Clean Design

It’s vitally important in keeping with the times. It says a lot about your business. Failing to do so is an indicator that your firm has an inability to adapt or assumes it doesn’t have to.

The modern design aesthetic is clean. It’s utterly minimal. That minimalism emphasizes the importance of everything on the page.

A lot can be said with very little through this form of expression.

Each item needs to have a reason to be on the page. Do not clutter your canvas. The distraction is visually unappealing and detracts from the information on your site.

The elements on your page should adhere to a certain style of minimalism. There are a few schools of thought. Some have a strict emphasis on white-space, and others prefer a small pallet of colors.

Choose a design that is appropriate for your branding. A professional firm shouldn’t be painted in pastel pinks, but it might be appropriate for a bakery run out of a home.

If your firm is having trouble with the design, we advise hiring a front end developer.

Pick a Font and Stick With It!

There are fewer things more distracting than a jumbled swamp of fonts. It ties into the concept of minimalism.

A standard website should have a handful of fonts that are used everywhere, in the same place. Titles and typeface should have complementary, but different, fonts. Do not mix the two; otherwise, it can confuse the reader and make for an odd visual experience.

Website Standards for Navigation

Aside from a visually awing design, navigation is the second most crucial aspect of websites. The cover of a book draws in a reader, but if the pages aren’t in order, the novel would be unreadable. A standard website size consists of many pages, don’t let your customer get lost in them.

The same concept applies. Draw in the traffic with your design, but have a good way to direct that traffic. There’s nothing more frustrating in UX than a poor navigational system.

If a potential customer can’t find their way around the page, they’ll certainly leave it. It’s good advice to have a top-side navigational bar with sensible buttons. Don’t overcrowd the bar; the less, the better (another minimalist concept).

Hit Refresh!

Owning a business is a bumpy road. A website to market yourself is essential to your firm’s success. There are specific website standards that you should follow.

It’s essential to have a visually appealing design to your site, one that’s minimal and adherent to a modern language. It’s equally important to have proper navigation for your site. One wrong turn is all it takes to lose a client.
