A long-sleeved shirt, or a shirt with long sleeves, is a wonderfully basic piece of clothing for when it is a bit colder. You can find it in all colors and prints, and therefore easy to combine. In itself it is ‘a bit boring’. That’s why it’s nice to unpack a bit more with the rest of your outfit.

What exactly is a long sleeve?
The long sleeve is a name for a shirt with long sleeves. This does not necessarily have to be a T-shirt, because there are, for example, shirts and polo shirts with long sleeves. The long sleeve was invented for several reasons. For example, an ordinary T-shirt was too cold to wear in the fall or winter. In addition, people needed a T-shirt that could be worn in bad weather, without having to wear a sweater over it every time.
What are long sleeve t-shirts made of?
Both long-sleeved and short-sleeved T-shirts are made of cotton. There are T-shirts that are made of 100 percent cotton, but you also increasingly see elastane/cotton T-shirts or bamboo/cotton T-shirts. The latter two types have a little more ‘stretch’ and therefore fit a little better around the body. T-shirts and long-sleeves made of 100 percent cotton are worn less often because they start to sag after a while. This is especially not pleasant for long sleeves. Adding 5 percent elastane can change that and ensure that there is enough stretch on the shirt.
What are the advantages?
Long sleeves have their advantages. They are ideal for the slightly cooler summer days. So you can enjoy the comfort of a T-shirt, without having to suffer from the cold or have to carry a sweater with you. In addition, they can also be ideal in winter, especially as undergarments. After all, long sleeves retain the heat well, so you will not get cold quickly. Finally, long sleeves are also ideal to wear under a shirt. This way you no longer see the line of the sleeve of your T-shirt.
Melange long sleeve shirt
Melange long sleeves are woven from two fabrics, one of which is usually white. Because these shirts are woven from different colors, these shirts look a bit playful. You can easily combine long sleeves with cool jeans.
Prints & texts
There are many long sleeve shirts with texts or large prints on them. With these long sleeves you can show your style very well and with texts you can even display certain quotes or statements. Make sure that the text or print really suits you.
Unicolor
The shirts with long sleeves are often found in one color. This makes them easy to combine but a bit boring on their own. You can wear these shirts well under a sweater or cardigan, or with a scarf.
With colored sleeves
These shirts are very American and have a casual look. In general, they are worn more by men, but a long-sleeved shirt with colored sleeves is also fine for women. These shirts are playful and young.
Striped
The long sleeve shirts are very nice with stripes. This gives it a French (Breton) casual look. You can easily wear these long-sleeved shirts over pants.
A long-sleeved t-shirt with buttons
Some long-sleeved shirts have a few buttons in the neck. Open one or two to create a playful effect. These shirts emphasize your chest or décolleté. They can sometimes look like a pajama shirt, so avoid a ‘pajama look’ look by combining different, contrasting colors and fabrics.
When do you wear a long-sleeved t-shirt?
