Linkedin Eic Dan Rothfischeraxios – With the emergence of algorithmic curators, professional content creators and influencers on LinkedIn are moving in search of a better, more sustainable way to build their careers on the platform.
To address this landscape shift, LinkedIn has announced the formation of a global creator management team, led by its Editor-in-Chief Dan Roth with managing director Nicolas Knechtel and head of content partnerships Lauren Ancona. The company consists of a total of nine members with backgrounds in journalism, media companies and tech startups.
The creator management team will be tasked with fostering a creator-first culture, supporting creator growth and helping creators tell the most impactful stories to their audiences.
Roth and Knechtel are both staffing up at LinkedIn: Knechtel has moved from head of products for journalistic partnerships, where he led content acquisition initiatives for LinkedIn, to managing director and head of the new creator management team. Meanwhile, Roth leads in his capacity as Editor-in-Chief.
Roth, who previously ran and grew The Associated Press’s news product, said that he is looking forward to sparking conversations with the new team, which includes a handful of “highly accomplished” journalists and media veterans.
“The goal is to create timeless stories so you can tell them again and again, every time someone shares them. As a journalist myself I love this goal,” Roth said. “I think it’s going to be great for creators all around the world. There’s going to be more opportunity, better tools and more support.”
Knechtel said that he hopes to foster a culture of openness with creators, where they can ask questions, get answers and help one another out. He wants to leverage his background in the startup world to build the product team and more talent. The team plans to launch a number of initiatives designed specifically for creators, including new features that will allow them to harness data around their work.
“Data gives creators the ability to source, produce and distribute better content,” Knechtel said. “Data gives creators better insights into their audiences and how to meet their needs.”
Ancona will lead the content partnerships team with a goal of connecting LinkedIn’s members with some of the most interesting content on the internet. She will also wo rk closely with the creator management team to help develop a creator-first environment. The content partnerships team includes four members, who have previously worked in media companies such as Time Inc and Hearst.
“We’re going to build a business for creators,” Ancona said. “Content is at the heart of every community, company and network on LinkedIn. This team is going to ensure that happens.”
LinkedIn has also announced a new business development initiative with one of its first partners, TechCrunch, which will serve as the creator management team’s media partner. TechCrunch will create content aimed at creators on LinkedIn as well as host events and roundtable discussions. The company will also work closely with the creator management team to help build their content strategy.
“This is a time of change and opportunity,” said Elizabeth Spiers, co-founder of TechCrunch and managing director of TC Growth. “Understanding how the creator economy works is important as more platforms emerge to support this emerging economy.”
