Requirements:

Here are some of the most basic requirements you must consider before choosing the laptop. If you don’t have much time to waste, just look into the tech specs of the laptop you are buying and match them with the information given below.

Memory/ RAM: You have to get a better storage capacity ranging from 8GB to 32GB. However, ideally, you can get at least 16GB. Videos with improved and better quality consume a good number of storage. So, make sure to look up the storage capacity while you are at it.

Processor: The processor should be powerful and be able to withstand the workloads. Multi-core especially 4 or more core processors would be the best. In this case, Intel’s i5, i7, and i9 models are preferable.

Graphics card: This term depends on the applications/software you are using. For instance, if you prefer using Davinci Resolve and Premiere Pro, then AMD and Nvidia do well with both. Get at least 2GB of memory.

Storage: Get a 256GB hard drive at the minimum with 7200 RPM. Go with SSD if you can as it is the fastest. However, the HDD is also good. The more you can get, it will be better as external hard drives can be added later. Also, avoid using SATA drives.

Operating System: This one also depends on the software you are using. E.g. Mac OS X, Windows 7 of the 64-bit edition, Linux can be of choice. In case, the software you’ve been using for a long time doesn’t have compatibility with your laptop’s OS, it would be a mess.

Screen size: Minimum 15-18 inch sized laptops are good for video editing. However, the ideal least screen size can be ranged from 19-21 inches.

Thunderbolt Port/ Firewire: It has two choices- built-in and as an external dock. Choose the one that suits you more because we sometimes cannot use the best things properly for being unsuitable and uncomfortable.

Moreover, choose the right software for you and then choose the laptop according to that. Because the software you’re using may not be compatible with your laptop. As 1080p footage does not require that much power like 4K footage, you should also choose accordingly. Think thoroughly before buying the laptop because after you’ve done it, it can’t be undone.
