Know What Everyone is Doing for Your Company

When you own a business it is like a child. You need to make sure you protect your business from all the potential downfalls that await your business at every turn. While you need to know how to delegate work and trust others, it is vital that you still keep track of everything that is being done for your company whether it is by a third party or an employee. Even though you may trust the people you hire, people make mistakes. At the end of the day, any mistakes they make are going to reflect on your business only. So take it on yourself to make sure everyone is carrying out the mission of your company.

Let Your Employees Know What You Expect

When you hire employees you need to communicate with them clearly what you expect of them. Once they agree to take the job they are then telling you that they understand what you expect and they are going to do everything in their power to help bring your business to new heights. Even though they may not intentionally do it, employees make mistakes or get in over their head, but all that means is you still need to keep up to date on what they are doing. When you are measuring employee performance it is important to keep you and your company’s goal in the forefront of your mind. It is important to communicate clearly with your employees. Having employee portals is another thing that will allow you to have an even more constant line of communication with everyone in your company. Making sure that your employees feel listened to and supported is key to making sure that your company fulfills the goals you set out for it. Employees are important, make them feel that way.

Third Parties Need Watching Too

There will be times you outsource work to third parties. The first thing you need to do is to do your research before you commit to giving them a part of your business. Once that contract is made, that does not mean you have to never check in with them as well. It is okay to ask for updates in the projects they are working on. It is your business and you have final say on what goes on. It is okay to be a thorn in their side, you need to look out for your company. Outsourcing work to a third party can be a huge help to your company if done correctly.

In the end, stating what you expect from the people who work for you is a big key to help your company grow to what you want it to be. One of the biggest downfalls of a company is miscommunication. Be precise, upfront, and exact in what you want and need. Delegating work and trusting others is a vital part of running a business. You just need to find the right people to trust and how to make sure they know what to do when you hand the work over to them.
