iPhone X vs iPhone 11 Pro Max – 7 Interesting Insights

As the world awaits the latest Apple iPhone, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is expected to be released in October 2020 as announced by Apple, it is important to take a look at the evolution of the iPhones in the past few years.

While the comparison is usually either held between iPhones with the traditional design and iPhones with the edge-to-edge screen design i.e. the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X, or between two iPhones that were released back-to-back to spot the differences between the latest iPhone and its immediate predecessor and see whether it was worth to have its own release as a separate device as usually happens with most new smartphone releases from Apple, Samsung, and any other smartphone creators in the market.

Since it’s normal for two iPhones that were released 5 or 6 years apart to have drastic differences, we need to take a look at how the most recent iPhones compare to the first iPhone with the all-screen front and Face ID, the iPhone X, and how are they different?

In this post, we’re going to take a deeper look not into two consecutive Apple iPhones, but rather, two iPhones with 2 years apart to see the difference in the technology and design calls that Apple provided its fans within 2 years.

iPhone X vs. IPhone 11 Pro Max: An overview

There is no denying that when the iPhone X first came out it was both impressive and intriguing. At the time, spending $1000 on this iPhone made sense as it was the first and only iPhone with an edge-to-edge display and the brand-new design set it apart from all the previous releases. Somewhere, the price is a big challenge and the iPhones are rarely available on sale as well. Thus, getting the second-hand or used iPhone is the best alternate. You can purchase a professionally refurbished iPhone at the discounted rate available on incrediblephones.com.

However, when checking out the iPhone 11 Pro Max, only two years after the iPhone X, the $1000 price tag certainly seems costly as you can now get a much better iPhone at the same price point. So, what to do now? Is it going to be worth it to spend another $1000 to get the new and improved iPhone 11 Pro Max?

Even if this price seems a lot for the new iPhone 11 Pro Max, you can always rely on amazing deals on refurbished iPhones in the UK to save money.

Now, let’s check out the most prominent upgrades that you’ll get with this iPhone before making a decision.

The display changes of 2 iPhones in 2 years

Perhaps one of the most notable changes between the iPhone X and iPhone 11 Pro Max is the screen changes. It’s not just about the bigger screen that the iPhone 11 Pro Max has or the better resolution, but the panel quality itself. While the iPhone X has a Super Retina OLED panel, iPhone 11 Pro Max has a Super Retina XDR OLED panel.

To be able to assess the difference between the two, we need to detail what is the Super Retina technology and what the addition of XDR offers in terms of performance and display quality:

What is the Super Retina OLED?

While some people think that the term Super Retina is the name that Apple used to describe the OLED display technology to make it its own, since OLED and AMOLED are originally developed by Samsung, there is a little more to the term Super Retina OLED than that.

To make it simple, we can say that this panel combines the good performance from both sides, Apple’s Retina display, and Samsung’s OLED, which uses organic or carbon-based material to emit the light. So, when it needs to display black, the light is turned off, and you get the most true black possible.

Now, what does XDR mean?

While OLED is all about lights and colors, XDR (Extreme Dynamic Range) is an extended or improved version of HDR (High Dynamic Range) and it works on drastically improving the brightness levels of the iPhone 11 Pro Max display and give the colors displayed on it a more natural look. It also helps the phone to improve and manage its power efficiency thanks to the advanced True-Tone and color management system it has.

So, there is no doubt that the iPhone X has a premium display, but the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a more premium and more advanced display, for sure.

3D Touch is gone!

The second screen-related difference between the Apple’s celebration of its 10th anniversary, the iPhone X and the iPhone 11 Pro Max is that the 3D Touch feature is no longer available.

While having an additional feature is in favor of the iPhone X, it really all comes down to the benefit or value of having this feature. When Apple rolled out iOS 13, it was obvious that the 3D Touch is on its way to be removed as the need for it was becoming close to none. So, it is actually not a loss for the iPhone 11 Pro Max not to have it, rather an advantage since, as users reported, the 3D Touch was not all that easy to use in the first place!

Main Cameras

A quick look at the specs of each of the iPhone X vs iPhone 11 will tell you that there is a huge difference in the photo and video quality between the two.

The most distinctive advantage is that the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a triple-lens rear camera with an additional ultrawide lens which provides a dramatic-looking photos and video shots. The iPhone X, on the other hand has only a standard lens and a telephoto lens without the ultrawide one.

Moreover, the iPhone 11 Pro Max has an improved HDR support for video recording as well as stereo sound recording, two features that are missing from the iPhone X. Finally, the night mode and Deep Fusion in the iPhone 11 Pro Max are much better as well.

Front camera (selfies)

In the selfie department, you don’t have to be a photography expert to notice the difference in quality between the iPhone X and the iPhone 11 Pro. Apple has replaced the 7MP standard lens with a 12MP 32mm wide lens to provide better framing and better lighting for your selfies.

Also, the front camera of the iPhone 11 Pro Max can now film 4K videos, whereas the iPhone X only films 1080p videos. Not to say that Full HD videos are bad or of low quality, but to have a video filmed by your phone’s front camera at a 4K quality is, of course, much better!

Battery and charging

Once more, the iPhone 11 Pro Max wins with a huge difference when it comes to its battery capacity. With a much larger battery, iPhone 11 Pro Max provides up to 20 hours of multimedia playing over 4G while, to get the same numbers, you’ll have to run only 3G networks with the iPhone X.

Luckily, both iPhones get the iOS 13.6.1 update which enables the Optimized Battery Charging features that help to extend the life of your iPhone’s lithium-ion batteries.

Platform & performance

The new Apple A13 Bionic chip provides a much better level of performance for the iPhone 11 Pro Max compared to iPhone X’s A12 Bionic chip. With the upgraded core from Monsoon & Mistral in the iPhone X to a combination of Lightning & Thunder cores in the iPhone 11 Pro Max, the latter will win any speed competition!

Again, this is not say that iPhone X’s performance is not premium, on the contrary, it provides one of the top levels of performances that Apple iPhones has to offer. But, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is much better, faster, and more responsive.

SIM type

Lastly, the iPhone X has a single Nano-SIM slot whereas the iPhone 11 Pro Max can have either Nano-SIM or eSIM and you can get a version of it with dual SIM cards if you can get your hands on a device that is sold in China as the dual-SIM iPhone 11 Pro Max is sold only there.

Usually when comparing two smartphones, there is a factor of compromise that the user has to take like budget vs quality or specs, for example. However, here, when we are comparing two premium Apple flagships, it’s a given that the price is out of the equation. With that said, there is no way around the fact that the iPhone 11 Pro Max got massive upgrades in every single aspect of its performance compared to the iPhone X.
