Harley Medic International is one of the fastest-growing medical companies in the UK. In recent months it has helped thousands of Britons with its state of the art COVID-19 testing network, covering over 50 sites across England, Wales and Scotland.
We sat down with Adonis Hakkim, COO of Harley Medic, a company that has redefined the outsourced COVID-19 testing model to become one of the most influential players in the medical field.
What is the background of Harley Medic International?
Harley medical International was set up to provide specialist medical testing and facilities for multi-national organisations helping to mobilise blue-chip companies through a network of expert facilities.
However, my experience at the company really changed at the beginning of the pandemic. Medical companies had a moral and ethical responsibility to help tackle and contain the spread of COVID-19 if they have the means to do so. From there I quickly assumed the role of operating and managing the transition of some of our facilities to help the UK stop the spread of coronavirus by locating outbreaks of COVID-19;
How has Harley Medic International kept up with demand?
COVID-19 has placed a huge strain on certain aspects of the global economy, namely medical supplies, vaccines, and testing facilities.
As soon as we entered this field, we knew we had to set out procedures to make sure we could keep up with demand while maintaining the high standards that our customers and clients have come to expect.
We did this primarily by solidifying our presence in a certain area or city, making sure the operations were extremely slick with little margins for error before moving onto other locations. There are huge logistics behind RT-PCR testing within a tight time frame and these vary based on location, due to their distance from the closest labs.
By having these distinct and defined protocols in place, we managed to stay one step ahead of the trend by predicting spikes and then implementing strategies to keep our operation as efficient as possible.
What is the future for your company?
We have some exciting and cutting edge medi-tech projects in the pipelines, but you will have to wait and see.
Where do you see the pandemic heading in the UK?
We should not solely focus on the UK, but the world as a whole. If COVID-19 is not restricted across the globe, then the UK’s efforts will be isolated and limited in effectiveness.
That being said, I think the UK has a good chance of coming out of this dark period soon enough, the key will be maintaining the levels of vaccination and POC testing we have introduced in recent months. That combined with our ability to limit the spread of further mutated viruses from abroad.
