Work and Finances
Your finances are one of the most important factors when it comes to moving. You need to consider what you’re going to do for work when you move. How are you going to support yourself? Or do you have sufficient savings to pay for everything you need? If you’re going to be getting a new job in the country you’re moving to, do lots of research and apply to a few before you arrive so you can start earning as soon as you’re there.
Visas
Prior to moving over to a new country, you need to check whether or not you will need a visa. Depending on where you’re from, not every country will require you to get a visa. For example, any UK citizens that are moving to Ireland are able to live, work, and study there without one.
Accommodation and Furniture
Amidst the chaos of moving countries, you also need to remember to organise somewhere to live. Are you planning on buying or renting? Are you going to lodge with someone? Make sure you find a safe and secure place to stay.
If you’re buying or renting, you will need to check whether or not the house or apartment is furnished. If not, you’re going to have to buy some! There is also the option to get your existing furniture shipped over, but this can get expensive.
Bank Accounts
Opening up a bank account in a new country is a lengthy process, but it’s a necessity if you plan on staying there for a while. You will first need to register where you live with the government. Once they have confirmed your residency, there will be a bunch of paperwork and many meetings before you can finally transfer your funds.
Culture and Language
It’s important to respect the cultures in other countries. Make sure you are aware of what not to do so you don’t end up offending anyone. Also, consider the language that is spoken in the country you’re moving to. Are you moving to a tourist-friendly area where they are likely to speak your language? You will probably find that the longer you live there, the more of their language you will pick up.
Legal Regulations
It’s vital that you learn about the laws and regulations that are in place in the country you’re heading to. You don’t want to be getting into trouble as soon as move! Look on the official government websites and other reliable sources to read up on what’s legal and what’s not.
