Importance Of Following A Proper Hand Hygiene

Remember the times when we used to come home after a long tiring day of attending school and then playing with our friends? On entering the door, our mom told us to wash our hands before we touch or eat anything. The reason? Well, the reason for washing hands before doing anything is that we are the carriers of germs. To prevent ourselves and our loved ones, it is important that we follow proper hand hygiene so that we do not transmit germs that cause diseases.

Before going to the importance of following proper hand hygiene, let us know about the steps to follow for washing our hands properly:

  • Wet your hands with water.
  • Apply soap or handwash and scrub well.
  • Rub your hands together, washing your palms, spaces between your fingers, and most importantly, your nails. You should at least take 20 seconds to wash your hands.
  • Thoroughly rinse and dry your hand with a soft towel. Now you are ready to eat your favorite food.
  • Also, make sure to wash your hands at regular intervals as bacterial accumulate on the hands constantly.

Here is the importance of following proper hand hygiene to prevent the contact of germs:

Healthy space:

The place where you live or work has to be neat and clean so that you can prevent yourselves and others from getting sick. When people live or work together, there are chances of getting into contact with germs as every human being is a carrier of bacteria that causes sickness. Proper handwashing will help to cut down those chances and will prevent from getting infected. It is better not to use soap at workplaces or public places as many people have already touched it. Carry a hand wash or a hand sanitizer with you whenever you are stepping out of the house.

Less food-borne illness:

Improper handwashing leads to food-borne diseases. Eating food at an unfamiliar restaurant may be a contributing factor in food-borne disease, but we cannot neglect that at home, too we can get sick by eating food just because we didn’t wash our hands in the first place. Make sure whenever you are sitting at a dining table to eat your favorite dish, you have washed your hands properly with soap before and after every meal.

Kid’s health:

It is important to teach your children to properly wash their hands to cut down the chances of being sick. When in the learning stage, children come in contact with a number of things that carry germs and bacteria of all kinds. It is important to teach them the importance of proper hand hygiene so that they can prevent themselves from getting infected in the first place. Washing hands with soaps and sanitizers will help them to eradicate germs.

Prevents infection:

We touch our nose, eyes, and mouth several times a day. It is essential to keep our hands clean so that germs do not enter our system when we touch these organs. This will help to prevent infections that are spread through the eyes, nose, and mouth.
