Hype and Vice, a collegiate apparel company, began as an entrepreneurial start-up by two college roommates back in 2015. Back then, the women noted the lack of selections for collegiate wear, especially for women – thus, they made it their mission to create a line of designs and clothing categories that appeal to a much broader audience. Now, Hype and Vice sells their licensed university clothing designs to several different bookstores, boutiques, and retailers. In the coming months this Summer, the company is excited to announce their new back-to-school product launches and pop-up events which will bring these new options to several college campuses across America.
Hype and Vice is licensed by over 200 colleges including Harvard, Stanford, Yale, and NYU, and more. The company works hard to break away from the typical styles and products of a traditionally male-dominated industry to introduce more fashion-forward options. The new product launch will offer categories such as dresses, rompers, and sets, including new silhouettes for jackets and pants. Current Director of Product Design, Mariana Corella, is responsible for creating the company’s catalog, developing new styles, and coordinating product launches.
Corella manages a team of 10 including designers, production managers, photographers, and developers to create innovative collegiate designs made by women, for women. Their designs include both feminine and unisex options, offering fashion-forward apparel to embody the spirit and passion of the college experience. This Summer, Hype and Vice are introducing pop-ups events to take place from August through September, 2023. The company will partner with local stores and sponsors to bring incoming students, currently enrolled individuals, and college alums these exciting pop-up events to introduce their newest designs.
The events have been announced to take place at the following locations:
- Purdue University Bookstore
- University of Alabama Bookstore
- University of Wisconsin Bookstore
- The Harvard Shop
- Cornell University Bookstore
- Aggieland Outfitters (Texas A&M)
- The University of Arizona Bookstore
Beginning as a small entrepreneurship company, Corella believes that Hype and Vice is a company that has broken the previous mold of basic unisex and male-targeted apparel. “Success doesn’t just come when you beg for it, or even when you work hard for it.” says Corella. “It takes continuous, non-stop effort. You can’t lose your momentum just because you haven’t achieved anything right away. It doesn’t stop once you graduate, or once you land your first job. Success is a process, it is not a one-and-done event. ” For those who struggle to find school spirit, Hype and Vice hope that their designs will spark joy in students who aspire to find success through their college experience and beyond.
Hype and Vice’s growth can be attributed to the efforts of their team of dedicated individuals. With Corella’s help, the company has just been approved for an NBA and MLS license to begin selling apparel for these pro-sports leagues. Big plans are on the horizon, and with these new pop-up events and product launches, Corella and the rest of the team hope to reach a broader scope of individuals. Their fashion-forward designs have already contributed to the innovation of collegiate apparel, and their continuous momentum as a growing business won’t stop here.
Hype and Vice is a collegiate apparel company founded in 2015. Now licensed by over 200 colleges, their apparel is sourced to multiple different companies, with top mentions including Barnes and Noble, Follet, Tillys, and Lids.
