How to Transition Your Home For Unexpected Cold Days

When spring is around us, warm weather accompanies us. But even during spring, some cold days knock on the doors, and people want or are required to spend most of their time indoors. Everyone now has to start preparing for these unexpected cold days during spring, rainy days, windy days, or even days with snow sometimes. There aren’t a lot of outdoor activities going on and that sometimes makes outdoor enthusiasts disappointed and sometimes depressed. That is why dealing with these cold days is never an easy endeavor. It, however, can make the journey easier if you invest in the right home additions to make your house ready. You need to make your home a haven that on top of shielding you from the frosting cold elements outside, also helps you to reset when the days get better. This article gives you a list of 7 changes you can make in your home to prepare your house for the cold days that might show up during spring:

1. Rethink your bedding

Of course, a cold day is a time for long cuddles and long movie nights. You need enough blankets and bed sheets for that. Invest in quality weighty blankets that on top of keeping you warm at night helps keep your legs warm during movie nights. Choose beddings- blankets, pillows, sheets, and duvets- that feature warm colors like red and green.

2. Weather-proof your home

You don’t need a glamorous home if the glamor comes at the expense of the safety of your home. Make sure that all the unseen weather elements can greatly affect the feel and comfort of your home. Winter-proof the windows and doors by fixing cracks and spaces if any, call in a professional to inspect and fill your furnaces and oil tanks, and get the gutters cleaned out towards the end of the week. Note that if your windows and/or doors are leaking, that can potentially blow up your energy bills.

3. Start bringing in new colors

Decorate the home with new colors and patterns. Your home décor, as well as your wardrobe, should have more moss and yellow, grey and purple, brown and carmine, blue and emerald, white, candy tones, and other bright and warm colors of your choice. The perfect colors for cold days should not only be stylish and modern but also warm enough to counter the dullness that time brings.

4. And houseplants

Houseplants need to be personal, beautiful, and above all, they should be best suited for the season. Cold days are characterized by drafty indoors with little to no natural sunlight. For this reason, your plants need to be hardy enough to survive the inhospitable indoor environment. Such plants include maidenhair fern, aglaonema (Chinese evergreen), clivia, and jade plant among others. If there is a houseplant you have grown to love but you aren’t sure if it will survive the drafty and dim days, you should invest in a LED grow light.

5. Upgrade your kitchen

Invest in kitchen remodeling by contacting a siding contractor to make it winter-ready. You will be spending more time in the kitchen during these days than during all the other spring days. That is why you need to make it functional and calming. Replace outdated kitchen cabinets and switch out plates and table linens from the dining room. Make sure that the dining area oozes warmth and the walls are painted in appetizing colors.

6. And the fireplace

You will be using this part of the home now more than ever. Clean out ashes to make the space ready, you can sweep them out or vacuum them if you have the time. Note that sweeping out the fireplace when actively in use can spark a fire in the home- mostly from the trash cans and vacuums because the ashes can sometimes be hot enough to spark a fire.

Note: Getting the fireplace winter-ready also means having the chimney professionally inspected and ensuring that there is plenty of dry wood.

7. Prep your backyard

Install a fire pit for your patio just in case you need to stay out late during these days. Fire pits go well with string lights/ clear globe string lights for exceptional outdoor movie nights in the backyard.

Conclusion

Transitioning your home for cold days elegantly shouldn’t be complicated or expensive. You just need to understand the needs and your style and everything becomes straightforward for you.
