A boring layover for business travel might involve sitting in an airport terminal for several hours, with nothing to do except wait for the next flight. The long wait can be a tedious and uncomfortable experience, especially for travellers who are used to being productive and on the go.

However, this doesn’t mean you have no choice but to endure it. Here are a few tips you can implement the next time you expect a long layover on your business trip.

Table of Contents

  • Plan ahead
  • Stay organized
  • Do something entertaining
  • Visit the airport lounges
  • Get some exercise
  • Get a good night’s sleep

Plan ahead

If you happen to have a day-long layover, consider leaving the airport and exploring the local area. Before your trip, do some research on the airport or city where you’ll be spending your layover.

When you’re there, take some time to explore your surroundings and discover what the local area has to offer. This could be as simple as taking a walk around the neighborhood or visiting a nearby museum or park.

Stay organized

Keep track of your schedule and any important documents you need for your business meetings on the ground while you wait. This can help you stay on top of your work and reduce stress.

Do something entertaining

Pack a book, puzzle, or other activity that you can do during your layover. This can help pass the time and keep you entertained. Or alternatively, you can read up on destinations and browse for cheap flights for your next vacation!

Visit the airport lounges

These offer a great place to drink, eat, and relax as you wait for your flights. Some of them may even provide shower space to refresh yourself.

Get some exercise

Many airports have areas where you can walk or stretch your legs. Consider taking a walk or jog around the terminal to help you stay energized and reduce stress.

Get a good night’s sleep

If your layover is overnight, consider booking a hotel room or finding a quiet spot in the airport where you can rest. Make sure you get enough rest so you can be at your best during your business meetings. This can also help you feel more refreshed and energized during your free time.
