Running a business isn’t easy in the 21st century. The standard person checks their phone around every 12 minutes — a situation which has vastly decreased our attention spans.

In this ever-distracted world, there are more workflow disruptions than ever before. If you want to succeed in business operations, you have to work smarter, not harder.

What does it matter if you put 12 hours of work in if they were 12 bad hours?

Thankfully, there are strategies out there to reduce downtime, increase productivity, and virtually eliminate business interruptions. Keep reading and we’ll provide you the tips to decrease distractions and keep your workers happy.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Make Sure Your Contact Info is Up To Date
  • 2. Plan Regular Maintenence
  • 3. Make Use of IT Services
  • 4. Know Your Employees
  • Reduce Downtime in Your Workplace

1. Make Sure Your Contact Info is Up To Date

Imperfections happen. Every once in a while, your employees will get sick. It’s much more productive to let them stay at home and rest than it is to force them to keep working.

However, your workers need to be able to communicate with you and each other when things happen.

If everyone’s contact information isn’t up to date, it’s easy to let your employees drop off the map when they aren’t in the office. In today’s online world, that just won’t cut it.

2. Plan Regular Maintenence

Whether you work just with hardware or with complex software, you need to make sure all of your systems and equipment go through regular maintenance.

Regular maintenance means taking the steps to make sure things are done right.

If even one of your employees isn’t able to work as quickly because of a lack of updates, your productivity will be impacted. The one employee’s lack of ability to focus will quickly bleed over into other areas of productivity.

3. Make Use of IT Services

The last thing you want is for a cybersecurity or hosting issue to slow you down.

Troubleshooting a computer issue isn’t easy to do. You might just not have the manpower to do it.

This matters little when you put money into hiring a great IT support service. It will take pressure off of your servers so you can devote more time and energy to your workflow.

A great IT support service will also, of course, be able to deal with any issue that comes up.

4. Know Your Employees

This one is more philosophical than practical, but it’s still very important. You have to make sure that you know what each of your employees is good at so you can steer them in the right direction.

Employees who feel appreciated work harder, and employees who are put in situations that work for them feel more appreciated.

Reduce Downtime in Your Workplace

If you want to make your business work in this ever-moving world, you need to make sure you reduce downtime in all places you see it. Reducing downtime isn’t about making your employees work harder, it’s about putting them in situations where they can work smarter.

Make sure your contact information is up to date, conduct regular maintenance, use IT services, and know your employees, and you’re sure to reduce downtime.
