Getting the best price on a used car can seem impossible at times. Car dealerships play this up by advertising low prices. However, the price they advertise is not the price you pay. This article will show you how to negotiate the best price for a used car by using their own tricks against them. Every car dealership uses the same techniques. That means you can go onto any car lot and know exactly what you face long before the salesperson opens up their mouth.

Pit two car dealers against each other

Ask the dealer to beat the price of another dealer’s used car. Some dealers will match a competitor’s online price, but most won’t. Instead, they try to win you over by offering you “dealer incentives.” These incentives include rebates on your trade-in or low-interest financing. Some car dealers go to great lengths to get you to buy. They let you take a test drive and then offer “free” car washes and detailing. They even give you free inspections and oil changes. Stay firm and tell the dealer that you’re out for the best possible price. It all boils down to how bad they want to make the sale. If the dealership needs a new customer, you might drive away with the car you’ve always dreamed of.

Use the Internet to research used car prices

Don’t just look at the sticker price and settle with that. Check online to see which dealerships are offering the best deals. Some websites focus solely on used car pricing. Use these sites to learn what a car is worth. Then head to the dealer with the best price and negotiate from there. You should know what the vehicle is worth long before you begin negotiating the price. If you don’t, you’re already behind the eightball because you can guarantee that the dealer already knows what the car is worth.

Don’t be shy about telling the dealer that you’ll sleep on their offer

Walk away from the offer they give you and say you’ll sleep on it. Allow the dealer to think that you’re on the fence about buying the car. They’ll increase their offer, and you’ll get the best possible price. This works with negotiating any car price. It’s best to bargain with a salesperson who wants to make the sale. Sometimes if the dealer knows that you’re serious about buying the car, they won’t allow you to walk away. The salesperson will want to make a deal right then to get it over with.

Always remember that you’re the one in control

The customer is always right when buying used cars in san diego. If you walk onto the lot thinking that you have the upper hand, you’ll drive away with a much better deal. Weakness is something you should never show because you’re not weak when buying a used car. You have all the power since you’re the one who has the money. Never forget that when you’re buying a car, it will go a long way in giving you the confidence required to get a good deal.
