How to Make a Kegerator Out of an Old Fridge?

A kegerator is an appliance, whose working mechanism is quite similar to the usual refrigerator. It is used to keep the beer keg cool during the dispensing.

Although every bar or pub owner needs such an appliance, not everyone can afford to buy a new model. The price of a standard kegerator on the market could be too high for beginners and home-brewers.

However, fortunately, there is a solution. It is possible to assemble your own kegerator kit. All you need is to find an old fridge. Provided you can take all necessary elements from the standard refrigerator.

A traditional kegerator kit consists of the following parts:

• Faucet handle
• Faucet (beverage tap)
• Beverage shank
• Hex nut assembly + black rubber washers
• Beverage line
• Keg coupler
• Air line
• CO2 regulator
• Beverage gas tank (this element is optional)

To make a kegerator out of a fridge:

• Prepare a fridge (clean it and remove all the shelves)
• Make a hole in the fridge door for a shank, put a door spacer into the hole, and run a shank through
• Use a crescent wrench to tighten it and connect it with a beverage line inside
• Connect a faucet to the outside part of a shank
• Attach a drip tray under the faucet to the outside of a fridge
• Connect a beverage line between the faucet and the keg
• Connect the air line between the CO2 tank and the keg
• Tight all hose clamps
• Adjust the CO2 pressure between 7 and 12 psi
• Clean and sanitize beverage and air lines

Start pouring cool beer and enjoy a refreshing drink.
