Emotional distress is something that’s taking a huge toll on a large percentage of Americans in 2020. One recent study discovered that about 14% of people are suffering from emotional distress right now, which is up from just 4% two short years ago.

So, what is emotional distress? Well, it’s essentially something that makes you feel anxious, stressed out, and down in the dumps. Severe emotional distress might even make you feel like you’re not sure how much more you can take.

In any case, it’s very important for you to try and get a handle on emotional distress sooner rather than later. You’ll be able to put yourself back into a better state of mind when you identify emotional distress and do something about it.

Check out some of the emotional distress symptoms below so that you know when it’s starting to get the best of you. By getting a good understanding of these symptoms, you’ll be able to do something about them.

You Have a Difficult Time Focusing on Things

Do you find that you have a tough time focusing on the things you have to do at work? Or do you find that you’re always getting distracted while working on things at home?

Emotional distress can cause a lack of focus in all the different areas of your life. When you’re dealing with things like anxiety and depression, it can hinder your ability to focus on anything else.

You might be able to restore your focus by leaning on supplements like Bromantane. But if that doesn’t do the trick, you may need to take a closer look at what’s causing your inability to stay focused on tasks for any length of time.

You Forget Things Way Easier Than You Should

When emotional distress has taken a hold of you, it’s going to cause your brain to go into overdrive at almost all times. You’re constantly going to be thinking about and worrying about whatever it is that’s bothering you in the background.

As a result of this, your brain might not always absorb all of the information that it should. It’ll make it far too easy for you to forget things that you would remember otherwise.

If you find that you’re more forgetful nowadays than you used to be, it could be because of the emotional distress you’re experiencing. You can regain your memory and start thinking clearly again by eliminating some of this distress from your life.

Your Temper Always Seems to Be Getting the Best of You

Every now and then, it’s perfectly normal for people to get angry when someone does something to them. There is nothing wrong with voicing your displeasure with someone when you’re upset with them for one reason or another.

But it’s not normal for you to be so on edge all the time that you lash out at others for the littlest things. You shouldn’t allow your temper to get the best of you every day.

If you’re having a difficult time controlling your temper, it might be time to ask, “What is emotional distress?”, and see if it could be causing you to lose your cool day in and day out.

You Struggle to Sleep on a Nightly Basis

There are plenty of people out there who struggle to sleep on some nights. In fact, research has shown that almost 70% of people have a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep at least once a week.

If you fall into this category, there could be any number of things to blame. You could be dealing with anything from stress to a serious issue like sleep apnea.

But you could also be suffering from emotional distress and paying the price for it at night. At any rate, you’ll want to get checked out by a doctor to see why sleep seems to be so hard to come by for you.

You Suffer From Bad Headaches, Stomach Troubles, and Other Physical Ailments

If the emotional distress that you’re experiencing ever gets to be really bad, it’s going to do more than just affect you in a mental sense. You’re eventually going to find that you’ll go through physical symptoms of this distress.

It’s not uncommon at all for those dealing with emotional distress to get bad headaches that last for hours or even days at a time. It’s also not uncommon for them to deal with stomach problems, including everything from an upset stomach to constipation.

This is when you’ll know that emotional distress is especially bad. You’re going to want to do whatever it takes to reverse these symptoms so that they don’t lead to further health problems down the line.

You Avoid Social Situations at All Costs

If you used to enjoy spending time with family members and friends but you no longer do, you should ask yourself why that is. Those who steer clear of social situations are sometimes doing it because of the emotional distress that they’re going through.

Connecting with others is one of the things that makes a lot of people happy. But it can be challenging doing it when you’re in a constant state of emotional distress.

You’ll want to work to clear this emotional distress up so that it doesn’t stop you from maintaining strong connections with the people that mean the most to you.
