How to Get Rid of the 15 Most Dangerous House Bugs & Pests

Yes, there are dangerous house bugs, but did you know that some house bugs are actually helpful? Whether they are helpful or dangerous we’ll help you learn how to get rid of them and keep them out of the house. Infestations like this often require the expertise and tools of a professional pest control company

  1. Ticks: This type of pests carry diseases which are dangerous to both humans and pets. They are normally found in wooded areas where humidity is high or in cooler places. Creating a lawn edge is one way of keeping ticks out of your home as they are usually within the first nine feet of your lawn.
  2. Ants: The first thing you want to do when you see an ant is to step on it. If you do, you’ll kill it. Just keep in mind that for every ant you see, there’s hundreds of more hiding all through your house. The ones that are usually crawling around your house are scout ants which are the ones looking for food to take back to their colony. Sweeping and mopping will not eliminate the ants. A good way to get rid of those pests is by mixing 1-part vinegar with 3-part water in a spray bottle and spray wherever you’ve seen ants. That will stop outdoor nesting which will eliminate them from coming in.
  3. Cockroaches: They are hard to track down and remove. Cardboard, magazines, and newspapers attract cockroaches so make sure you don’t leave them lying on the floor if they are able to be stored elsewhere. They also like hiding under appliances such as pipes and garbage’s so if you see one remove them with a vacuum or the bottom of a shoe. Store-bought baits and traps are also very helpful ways to get rid of these pests.
  4. Bed Bugs: A lot of people don’t even know how to begin with bed bugs because they’ve never been able to see them. Bed bugs are brown with small, flat oval shaped bodies, and don’t have any wings. They are usually hiding in your mattresses, bed frames, bedding, furniture, carpets, baseboards, and pretty much everywhere in your room. If you do come across an infestation of bed bugs, make sure you bag up all your clothes, towels, bedding, and curtains into a plastic bag. Once you have that all tied up, keep them like that until you reach your washing machine. You are going to want to wash your clothes and bedding with hot water. Cleaning your room is very important. Always vacuum every surface in the room including the furniture. Also, use a small wand to really get into corners and crevices.
  5. Gnats: These pests are hard to notice until there is an infestation. They have short lifespans meaning if they can’t reproduce in your home, then there won’t be a problem anymore. Make sure your trash cans are tightly closed because they like to linger around trash. A way to get rid of gnats is by using a non-toxic gnat trap which eliminates fungus gnats. These traps are worth it because they can trap even the worst infestations without the use of any pesticides.
  6. Termites: These can create serious damage to your home and are very difficult to get rid of. The moment you see them, take action immediately. You’re going to want to find their nest and ones doing so, plant bait traps to poison the termite queen and all other ones. You also want to make sure that you properly seal any gaps and cracks around your home.
  7. Flies: Flies are always a bother when they are constantly flying around you all over the house. Beware because they can also carry diseases if left untreated. Growing herbs such as basil, bay leaves, and mint around the house is helpful because flies don’t like the scent. Another idea is to mix lavender, peppermint, and witch hazel with water into a spray bottle and use it to mist anything.
  8. Spiders: This type of creature seeks warmth and food. You usually don’t hear about infestations of spiders which means killing every spider you see is an effective way of keeping them out. If you do catch yourself killing every spider you see, that should be a sign for you to clean the house. Using a broom or cobweb cleaner to clean the ceiling spaces, fans, and other areas where you see webs build up is also another way to get rid of spiders. Your goal is to not only kill the spider but to take down the web as well because it can have eggs. After doing that, make sure to vacuum.
  9. Fleas: These pests are small but very easy to see because they jump around and bite, especially during summertime. Pets are the ones that bring fleas into your home which means the best way to prevent this from happening is to protect your pets with flea treatments. Another effective way to kill fleas is by purchasing a home-safe flea spray. You are going to want to spray this around your house, in the back of furniture, and in all the areas where you’ve seen an invasion.
  10. Centipedes: These creatures have around 15 legs and can travel 1.3 feet-per-second which explains why it’s hard to catch these bugs. A good way to get rid of house centipedes is to eliminate their foods which are other pests they prey on. You can do this by making sure your home isn’t humid by using a dehumidifier or having your fan on in your bathroom. Again, make sure corners and cracks are sealed and always keep the house clean.
  11. Mosquitos: The fewer shade you have in your backyard, the less they’ll congregate in that area. They like the shade and need a place to get away from the heat. Keeping your grass cut and bushes trimmed at least once a week will help eliminate them. Also encouraging your neighbors to do the same will be beneficial not only for them but for you as well because it will be harder for them to come back.
  12. Meal Moths: They love getting into food such as flour, beans, dried fruit, and even pet food. These creatures don’t carry any diseases which means you can eat the food after you pick out the dead bodies and freeze the food for a couple of hours if you wanted to. Throwing it away is also an option of course. If you don’t want these moths crawling all in your food, make sure you use sturdy containers and never leave food unopened laying on your kitchen counters.
  13. Fruit Flies: If these flies are flying all over your kitchen, here is a trick on how to get rid of them. You will need dish soap with some apple cider vinegar and mix it together in a bowl. Once it’s mixed, you’re going to cover it with plastic wrap and poke holes on the top. Fruit flies will get in and become trapped because they are attracted to the smell.
  14. Crickets: It is rare but if you provoke these creatures, depending on the type of species of crickets they are, they are capable of biting humans. The species that can bite aren’t typically found in North America.
  15. Beetles: This creature isn’t really that dangerous. They can however bite you which is usually pretty mild. You won’t feel anything more than a stubbed toe or a pinprick. If the area that you got bitten is bruised up, ice it and use a bandage if necessary.
