How to free up space on Mac with Dissy?

Today the problem of the lack of storage on the computer is becoming more and more common, and many users are wondering what are the effective methods to get more space on their machine.

Unfortunately, not all Mac computers have a lot of storage. If you are an active user and often save something on your computer, the 256GB of storage can run out very soon.

To avoid running out of space, you can use several methods.

There are many different external hard drives and external SSDs that can provide you with additional storage. But keep in mind that the new storage won’t free up space on your computer, and you will start storing even more information that can become difficult to navigate over time.

You can also use cloud storage, but this method is often not free, and you will have to pay for additional storage every month.

Another way is third-party applications, which have all the functions for efficient storage cleaning.

Now we will tell you about Dissy, the disk space analyzer. You can download it and learn more about it on the official website- https://www.dissyapp.com/, and in this article we will tell you about the main functions and abilities of Dissy.

Cross-platform

Dissy is a cross-platform application that you can use on Windows, Mac and Linux computers.

Flexible settings

Dissy settings allow you to change the color scheme (dark, light or using the system theme settings), manage file types and enable and disable scanning of hidden files and folders.

Find Duplicates

Click the “Search Duplicates” tab and select the drive or folder you want to check for duplicates. Once the scan is complete, you will see a list of duplicates that you can delete right away.

Sorting options help you quickly find unwanted files

Dissy has various sorting options that you can use to find and remove files in just a few clicks.

Sort items by name, type, size and modification time, or use the built-in search if you want to find something specific.

You can also mark folders as Important and Favorite.

By marking a folder as Important, Dissy will ignore it during scanning. Use this feature if you have folders and files on your computer that you don’t want to accidentally delete.

If you mark a folder as Favorite, it will be displayed on the main window and you will have quick access to it.

Large Files list

To get a list of large files on your computer, click the “Large Files” tab and select the drive or folder to scan.

After Dissy scans the selected directory, you will see a list of large files.

You can choose how large files will be displayed: all large files, over 5GB, 1GB to 5GB, 500MB to 1GB and 100MB to 500MB.

Delete files

To delete a file or folder, you can use 2 ways.

Open the item in the Finder and delete it there, or delete the item in the application itself. To do this, you have to move the file or folder to the Trash in Dissy and then clear the trash so that the object is deleted from your computer.

How do I use Dissy?

  1. Go to the official site and download Dissy for your operating system (Windows, Mac or Linux).
  2. Install and run the application and you will see the Dissy window.
The main screen will show you the drives you have on your computer.

If you have external drives connected to your computer, they will also appear in your storage list.

Also, if you need to add other drives, you can do so by clicking the “Attach New Drive” button.

A window will appear in front of you where you can select Network Drive, OneDrive, Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.

You can remove the attached drive from the storage list at any time if you no longer need it.

  1. Go to the storage list and find the drive you want to scan and click “Scan Storage”. To scan a specific folder, select it at the bottom of the window.
  2. After Dissy finishes the analysis, you will see a list of all files and folders with their size and modification time, as well as graphical statistics of the used space on your drive or folder. This graphical line is not only for visualizing the used space, but also for navigating through directories.
  3. To delete files, you can open them in Finder and delete them there, or you can move them to Dissy Trash and delete them directly in the application.

That’s it! Now you have much more free space on your computer ready to use.
