The beauty industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. The reason is that everyone wants to look flawless. This desire seems to be deep inside our genetic code. The key to looking flawless all starts with one thing. A beautiful, clear, even, and glowing skin. How do people achieve this look? Well, one thing is for sure, they start with the right foundation.

Choosing the right foundation is a skill not many people seem to understand. You know you always see people with a foundation that is two or three shades too dark for them. You may even notice some people look like their foundation gives off a greyish hue and makes them look sickly. That is because they do not understand the key principles of picking the perfect foundation. To get your foundation shade correct you have to understand the overtones and undertone of your skin.

What is Overtone

Overtone is easier to find because it is essentially just the shade of your skin. Our overtones fall into categories that cover the whole spectrum of tone from fair to dark tones. Different companies label their shade ranges differently many use the terms fair, light, tan, and dark. All companies use some variation of the terms.

What is Undertone

Undertone is a little harder to define. Three categories are used to describe it. Which are cool, warm, and neutral. Knowing your undertones will help you in finding the perfect shade of foundation when your undertone is not correct the foundation can make you look gray or appear sick.

How to Find Your Undertone

The easiest way to determine your undertone is the white paper test. To do this test you need to be in a room with a lot of natural light. Then get a mirror and a piece of plain white paper and you are ready to go. Now hold the piece of paper next to your face in the mirror. If you appear pink or rosy next to it you have cool undertones. If your skin appears to look yellow you have a warm undertone. If it doesn’t affect your skin you are neutral.

How to Select the Right Shade of Foundation

Now you know how to determine your undertone and overtone you should be able to start looking for your perfect match. You should be able to narrow it down to a few shades that are in both of your tone categories. You will then take each of those and test them on your jawline. Test by swatching a small amount of foundation and blending it in.

Once you find a foundation that blends without leaving any discoloration, that is your perfect shade. If you can not find one that blends perfectly you should go a hair lighter never darker. You can always use a bronzing powder to slightly darken the appearance.

More Tips for Flawless Complexion

If you want to get the best results from your foundation, you must always start with a freshly cleaned face. Then you want to invest in a face primer and apply that with your beauty blender. The next secret is to invest in a concealer and place it under your eyes and blend in before applying the rest of your foundation. Then use your concealer to dab on any other uneven spots and blend well. You will then want to set with a powder. Then use your setting spray once you finish all your makeup to seal your look in place.

Now that you know the secrets to find your shade of foundation, it’s time for you to go grab a mirror and white piece of paper to figure out your undertone. If you want the best foundation on the market your next step is purchasing a HIDE foundation. Their product always offers flawless results. If you buy their foundation you will have clear, even, and glowing skin in no time.
