How to Care for Your Mind and Body as a Student

A student’s lifestyle isn’t an easy one. Not only do you have the mounting pressures regarding your studies and your future to contend with, but you always have to try and maintain a healthy, basic lifestyle alongside that which can be easier said than done.

Signs Your Mental or Physical Health May Be Struggling

  • Your weight is unhealthy, whether overweight or underweight
  • You’ve lost your motivation, physically and mentally
  • You’re feeling distant socially from friends and family
  • You’re struggling to concentrate
  • You’ve lost enjoyment for your favourite things
  • You’re feeling burnt out, stressed or pressured
  • You’re eating unhealthily
  • You have trouble sleeping

How to Take Better Care of Yourself

Make Any Relevant Changes

Time as a student is a time when you’re undoubtedly comparing yourself to others, or being highly influenced by others, whether it’s your group of friends or roommates.

It’s important to understand what works best for you and your own routine, and be open and honest about that. If you need an early night to feel your best and to overcome your stress, then openly admit that. Adjust your routine as needed, such as switching to a private dorm if possible, dropping a hobby if it’s too much for you, or saying no to social occasions every now and then.

Don’t let peer pressure stop you from having a healthy routine.

Join a Sports Team

Joining a sports team as student will not only give you the motivation to exercise, but it will also allow you to socialize with other students, too. Finding a sport you really enjoy can give you that all-important push to keep it up, as well as having more goals to work for.

Not only that, but if you’re keen on sport becoming your main focus as a student, there are always scholarship opportunities for university education for a variety of sports, like football, fencing, water sports or wrestling. You can view your options at asmscholarships.com

Speak With Others

You don’t have to keep everything inside, no matter what you’re going through. Your institution should have trusted professionals on hand, even if it’s a trusted professor, who you can speak to should you be running into any problems or struggles. You should also speak to trusted friends or family if you’re having difficulty, and work to know that you’re not alone.

Eat Well

Make any effort you can to eat healthily. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a treat every now and again, but be more mindful about what you’re eating, and try to incorporate healthy recipes, or cook homemade meals instead of ordering takeout. Do your research, such as looking online or finding a cookbook, to explore healthier recipes you can actually enjoy.

Stay Hydrated

Rushing from place to place as a student throughout your day may see you forgetting to stay adequately hydrated, or perhaps to drink any water at all. Get in the habit of keeping a water bottle with you if that helps, and always ensure you’re drinking enough water
