How Spotify Community Audigent: Have you ever dreamed of making a living from your music? Of course, this is the ultimate goal for many musicians. But it’s not always so easy. There are so many channels to market on — how can you be sure you’re getting your music heard by the right people? And what’s even more difficult is figuring out who those “right people” are, and then reaching them. Meeting your fans and other music lovers is a big part of being in the industry, but it’s not enough to make you money on your own. You need to actually monetize — grow your fan base and turn them into customers or subscribers. But how can you do that? And what makes someone a customer or subscriber versus someone who just appreciates your work?
That’s exactly what Spotify determined when they decided to create a Community Engagement program under their Premium Plan to help artists find and engage with their fans. And they’re not the only ones. Audigent has been doing similar things with their Fan Engagement solution for some time, and Unitea has come up with a way to help you find and target your own superfans. These are real solutions that are available right now, so we’re going to talk about what they can offer.
Community Engagement is just one of the tools in Spotify’s arsenal that helps artists connect to their fans. It’s designed to allow you to create a virtual community around your music. You can set up different “playlists” of your fans’ favorite tracks and have them vote on which songs they’d like to hear in the future. When users listen to your playlist, you get credit for it, and it builds up credits for you that can then be redeemed for other products.
But Community Engagement does more than just give you credits for getting people listening to your music. It allows you to engage with your fans, too. You can see who’s listening — and at what times they’re most likely to be listening. You can leave comments on their profiles and ask them questions about what they like about your music. The idea here is to connect with people who already love your music, so that you can build on that love over time and even turn them into customers.
Spotify has more than just Community Engagement on their platform, however. They also have a tool called Audiences that provides some pretty exciting options for artists who want to reach specific fans. Audiences allows you to specify the kind of people you’d like to connect with — for example, women in their late 20s who like pop music and live in the US. And then Spotify will create a playlist just for them!
You can also use Audiences to advertise your playlists, which is a way to get even more listeners and build up your credits faster. Audiences also has a radio feature that allows you to broadcast your tracks to users who like what you’re doing and who are in the same location as you. It’s all about getting your music out there and making sure it’s heard!
There is no limit on how many times, for how long, or where you want to broadcast your songs, giving you a much wider audience than if you tried to put them up on Spotify’s website.
