Industrial trolleys can be customised according to the demands of the factory or warehouse. You can design a particular kind of trolley that would exclusively suit all your needs with regard to packaging, storing and transporting. In most industrial units, single or double platform trolleys with a handle and one bar attached to the wheels are used for most purposes. However, for certain specialized purposes, you cannot use the same kind of trolley. To know how to select the right kind of trolley for your unit, there are a number of things you should consider.

 

1. The objects being handled.

You would need to customise your trolley according to the kind of goods you will be handling in your warehouse or factory. The weight, size, and shape of the objects will determine what kind of trolley you would need. If you are simply using the trolley to transport spare parts or smaller goods, then platform trolleys are a good choice.

For perishable and fragile products, you would need trolleys with compartments so that the goods do not get damaged in any way. For products that can potentially be dangerous, it is always a better option to use wire mesh trolleys.

Trolleys can be made with many different materials, hence it is important to know about the surrounding area where they will be used. Not only does this include physical factors like temperature (since units like furnaces can get extremely hot and blast freezers can get very cold), but also the availability of ramps, stairs, elevator access and so on. The availability, length and bread of walkways and doors would also determine the size of the trolley.

Plastic trolleys are a big no-no for too hot or too cold surroundings. Metals and alloys can be used depending upon their reactivity.

It is very important to first know what purpose your trolley will serve. For transporting goods over short distances, you would not require a lot of customisation. If you are using a trolley mainly for storage, then a simple cage or metal trolley would be the right choice. But if you want your trolley to be multifunctional, then you may opt for a stair trolley, which will help you carry objects up or down the stairs without damaging the wheels. You may also want to use a powered platform trolley if the goods are too heavy to be manually shifted.

1. Choosing the right manufacturer.

Once you are clear on what kind of trolley you would need for your unit, it is important to select the correct manufacturer as well. Needless to say, you should always research your seller very well, and make sure to provide the correct specifications. It is a good idea to review a few sample industrial trolleys as well before you select one.
