What are Veneers?

Veneers are thin tooth-like colored shells used to cover the imperfections of the teeth. It is a famous dentistry procedure that dentists use to improve the appearance of teeth. Since it gives a natural-looking smile, the treatment is otherwise known as a smile makeover.

The tooth-colored shells are fitted to the front of the teeth to transform the natural teeth’ color, size, and shape. In other words, a veneer is an effective solution to many dental issues. These dental issues include tooth discoloration and chipped, broken, and irregularly shaped teeth.

Another essential thing to know is the dental veneer cost; this will help you finalize your decision about getting it. Don’t worry about this, as you will get adequate information about this subject.

Types of Veneers

Knowing the varieties of veneers is vital to know the one that will suit your needs. Below are the different types of veneers we have:

  1. Porcelain veneers: this is the most popular and least harmful veneer material. It also boasts greater strength and longevity compared to other veneer materials. This attribute is due to the ability of this material to withstand biting pressure to a great extent.

While mimicking the look of natural teeth, porcelain veneers cause no injury or allergic reactions to the gum and mouth tissues. This property is due to its biocompatibility nature.

For placement, there is a need for tooth shaving, as they give a permanent solution.

  1. Composite veneers: These materials are produced from organic and inorganic substances known as composite resins. Fortunately, the inorganic component of this material does not irritate the surrounding tissues of the teeth.

This veneer type is durable but not as strong as a porcelain veneer. But, it is less expensive than a porcelain veneer. Even though these materials blend well with natural tooth color, they get stained over time.

Just like porcelain veneers, these materials give a permanent solution. Thus, it requires tooth shaving before placement.

  1. No-prep veneers: These are specific brands of porcelain veneers that require little to no teeth preparation before placement. Thus, they need less time and are less invasive to apply. The primary examples of this veneer type are Lumineers, Vivaneers, and Durathin veneers.

These materials are made of thin and compact shells. Generally, these veneers serve as quick fixes to stained, irregularly shaped, and chipped teeth.

  1. Palatal Veneers: These materials, also known as Palatal Onlays, are generally used to improve the posterior part of the teeth. But there are special ones that are used to restore the front part of the teeth.

These materials help to treat issues that affect the back of the teeth. These issues include dental erosion, bite unalignment, and teeth grinding (bruxism). These veneers made from diverse restorative materials help to make the teeth more even. In all, they improve the overall appearance of the teeth.

  1. Removable veneers: These materials give temporary solutions until a permanent solution is produced. Based on their nature, they are also called temporary or snap-on veneers.

Removable veneers are made of flexible resin. Thus, they are less invasive and cost less. The major types of this smile makeover are instant veneers and custom-made clip-on veneers. Since they are non-permanent, their placement does not require tooth reduction.

How Much Does Dental Veneer Cost?

Generally, the cost of dental veneer depends on several factors. These are:

  • The type of veneer
  • The number of veneers gotten
  • The extent of your treatment
  • Your dentist’s location

The American Dental Association states that the average price of dental veneers ranges between $250 and $2,500 per tooth. Unfortunately, this treatment isn’t covered by insurance because it is a cosmetic procedure.

The price range for the major types of veneers is given below:

  • Porcelain veneers: price range between $900 to $2500 per tooth
  • Composite veneers: cost between $400 to $2000 per tooth
  • No-prep veneers: cost varies between $800 to $2000 per tooth
  • Palatal veneers: cost between $800 to $2500
  • Removable veneers: price range from $470 to $600 for both upper and lower teeth

Benefits of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are an excellent investment due to their numerous benefits.

Some of these benefits are:

  1. Teeth whitening veneers, as natural as they look, come as very white. Thus, a veneer procedure is one of the best options if you want a beautiful white, bright smile.
  2. Covering teeth gaps, chips, and cracks: Veneers help give lasting solutions to minor teeth imperfections like cracks, gaps, etc. In other words, they provide coverage and smoothing over rough edges.
  3. They add volume: Generally, aging makes the mouth more pursed, and the smile loses its brightness. This phenomenon is since the teeth and the skin around the lips lose their volume with age. With a custom-made veneer, you get to improve the dental support of your lips. Ultimately, this leads to a brighter smile and youthful appearance.
  4. They function like natural teeth: Veneers are unlike false teeth, which help to replace missing teeth. Instead, they help to enhance the appearance of the existing teeth. Also, the materials used for making veneers imitate the functionality of natural teeth. Thus, with this treatment, you still get to do everything you have always done with your teeth.

Conclusion

Veneers are your best bet to achieving a brighter smile that will help lighten up any room you walk into. No doubt, this cosmetic dental procedure is quite expensive. However, it is a worthy investment in long-term dental care. Thus, if getting a brighter smile is your top priority, decide which of the veneers you will be going to and start saving up for it.
