How Does Implementing Computer Monitoring Software Impact Profit in 2021

Employee monitoring is often said to be able to improve productivity – which in turn can improve profits. But do you know what is computer employee monitoring software? And more importantly – how much of an impact it can have?

If you want to see exactly how implementing computer monitoring software can affect profits, here’s a case where WorkExaminer was used by Shirt Express – an online fashion store based in Phoenix, Arizona.

Why WorkExaminer Was Contacted

Shirt Express is an online store in Phoenix that primarily sells customizable t-shirts. Customers can log on to their platform, customize their own t-shirt, and the company will then print and ship it to them.

Due to the pandemic most of the employees of Shirt Express began to work remotely. At the same time online sales began to spike. However the company found that while sales were increasing, the number of incomplete sales and cancellations rose from 22% to 35%.

Needless to say, Shirt Express began to analyze and look for the reason for this trend. It eliminated many potential causes, including pricing, delivery costs, product availability, and so on.

The one thing that stood out was many of the incomplete sales or cancellations came from non-automated orders where the customers had requested consultations. That discrepancy prompted Shirt Express to look into whether employee productivity was the problem.

After some deliberation and looking at several reviews they decided to implement WorkExaminer as a monitoring solution.

How WorkExaminer Was Implemented

Before WorkExaminer’s system went live, employees were notified about the software installation and provided with a transparent description of how it operated. Basic guidelines were also issued that covered how WorkExaminer would track and monitor their activity, and the reason why it was being used.

The main purpose of WorkExaminer was to determine how productive employees were being. Its features were used to monitor whether they were active or idle, and keep tabs on their communication with customers who requested consultations.

Additionally, Shirt Express had tried the free account and decided it would be a good idea to give the head of the sales department access to the system. With WorkExaminer’s real-time screenshots, the sales department head would know what managers were up to and could improve the distribution of urgent leads to managers who weren’t as busy.

Within a week of the system being implemented, the incomplete orders and cancellation rate dropped down to 25%. However WorkExaminer’s reports indicated that there were still issues with time wastage.

With the data from WorkExaminer, Shirt Express sent out a notice to its employees who were found to be wasting too much time. On top of that one-on-one talks were held with the worst offenders.

Once that action was taken, the overall incomplete orders and cancellation rate dropped further to 18% – lower than it had been even before the pandemic.

Impact on Profit

On average, Shirt Express averaged 100 leads per day, which with an average order value of $50 equated to  $5,000 in revenue. It had a profit margin of 25%, which meant its average profit was $1,250.

The original 35% cancellation rate resulted in the Shirt Express profit being cut to $812.50. However after implementing WorkExaminer its cancellation rate of 18% meant that it’s profit increased to $1,025.

In other words WorkExaminer’s impact on its profits amounted to an increase of $212.50 per day, or $6,375 each month. All in all that would mean a yearly increase of $76,500 – which is definitely a significant amount for a business the size of Shirt Express.
