How Do I Keep My Box Cold When Shipping?

When shipping an item, how do I keep the product cool during transit? There are several methods you can use, including the use of dry ice or gel packs, Styrofoam boxes, or insulated box liners. The best way to keep the items cold during shipping is to pack them in a small box, so they can fit tightly without being compressed. Also, be sure to wrap all the packing supplies securely to avoid them from shifting during transit.

Gel packs

Gel packs are the simplest way to keep a box cold when shipping. They freeze at lower temperatures than dry ice but are much longer-lasting. Gel packs are ideal for shipping fresh meat, which would be destroyed by dry ice. Gel packs do not allow the meat to freeze during the transportation process, making them the best choice for this type of shipment. This article will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using gel packs in shipping.

Most gel packs come in two types. Frozen gel packs are the most common type, and are best for keeping perishable products cool in a variety of climates. They have an extended shelf life and are often used by foodservice companies and caterers. They’re made from non-toxic refrigerants and sealed inside a heavy plastic pouch. Gel packs are safe to use in any climate and are great for shipping in a variety of environments.

Dry ice

Dry ice is used to keep boxes cold during shipping. The substance is extremely cold, about minus 230 degrees Celsius. But it’s not as cold as a refrigerator, so it’s important not to place food directly on the ice. Meats, for example, can get freezer burn, ruining the texture and flavor of the food. If you must use dry ice, wrap it in plastic or paper that has vent holes. Depending on the shipping company, they may also require that you label your boxes “Dry Ice” on the outside.

Dry ice has several advantages. It can be stored for up to 18 hours in a cooler, and it keeps boxes cold for up to 24 hours. Food distributors have expanded their market by using dry ice in their shipping. However, you must buy it close to its use date. It should also be packed in an insulated container with a lid and packed with crumpled newspaper to help keep the ice solid. Crumpled newspaper reduces the oxygen content and suffocates the dry ice. In the course of a day, Dry Ice will lose about 50% of its original solid state.

Styrofoam boxes

Perishable cold foods such as cheese and other cheese products can spoil during shipping if they are not properly packed and shipped. Styrofoam boxes are a convenient, affordable way to protect perishable food products during shipping. They are usually available in standard sizes, and come with an outer shipping carton. However, if the temperature of the product inside is going to be very low, consider double-bagging it.

Alternatively, you can use air pillows. These liners are lightweight and moisture-resistant and can be used for small or large quantities. Unlike the full-size boxes, they require less dry ice and can be shipped for free. They look like emergency blankets and are a more economical option than purchasing a whole box. You can even purchase an extra one to fill empty space in your boxes.

Refrigerated shipping boxes

Refrigerated shipping boxes are becoming increasingly popular. These boxes are specifically designed to keep items cold, and they can be used for a variety of purposes. They are perfect for sending food products, flowers, and even medications across the country or around the world. Depending on the type of items you are sending, there are different types of refrigerated shipping boxes that can be used. For example, if you are sending fresh food across the country, you will want to use a standard refrigerator box.
