How and Why to Buy A Garment Bag?

We never know, a time will come when we might need to travel with a suit in our bag. Maybe a pair of slacks and a shirt dress, or a sports coat. However, a matter of fact is, at some point in time destination requires you to look amazing. Be it a job interview, best friend’s wedding, or a wedding, or your d-day. In case, you are traveling for business, considerably it might be a common occurrence.

What is a garment bag?

A garment bag is a soft-sided piece of bag whose purpose is to carry garments that are stored on a hanger, instead of folding up in a drawer. People traveling on a regular basis must have a garment bag. Trips that require fancy clothes are mostly short in duration, but they are more frequent like weddings, business, travel, weekend getaway,  exploring new cities, etc. A perfect combination for such luggage is a weekender duffel with personalized garment bags.

The purpose of using a garment bag is transportation and storage of higher value clothing, without keeping them creased and wrinkled. But, they also maximize the carry space while traveling along. Carrying a personalized garment bag along can free up space from the duffel by allowing more room for things like Dopp kit, wedding gifts, casual dresses, workout equipment, and saving up space or valuable souvenirs as well. Some of the airlines do not consider garment bags as carry on as long as it has a few things and no stuffings like a duffel bag. The airline might even hang it up till the flight duration.

Tips to know before choosing a personalized garment bag

  • Choose a bag that sums up your weekend scenes. In a lot of cases, you will carry both at the same time. It might look good on the whole and not clash.
  • Know that it consists of a thin and easy profile hanging loop rather than the handles. The bag will look like a piece of cake, while it is hanging on the closet, a bathroom door, or a closet. The handles are made for carrying, hanging loops are for hanging. Some of the handles are way too large to hang on small hooks. While traveling, you will not have many options.
  • A garment bag that has a separate pocket for shoes, preferably a pair works best. Whenever packed in a weekender, shoes take up a lot of space. If they are packed in a garment bad, they fill up the void and offer to add on protection from creasing and bending. Well, who would want to put walked in shoes in the same custom garment bags that carry clean clothes and toiletries?

Check out external pockets to access it easily for personal items when the bag is rolled up. In case, you are using it as a carry-on, it is better to have pockets that are easily accessed, like car keys, boarding passes, headphones, wallets, books, etc.

A bag with a zipper accesses simpler packing. Always go for a diagonal zipper, as it is easy for packing while the clothe are hanged up already. But also the bag must be flat on a bed or floor.
