How a Ghostwriter Can Help the Entrepreneur

By Lisa Montalto

Entrepreneurs today know the importance of generating content to bring in clients. Published articles, blogs, books, biographies, social media posts, product descriptions, ebooks, white papers, case studies, and YouTube scripts are all ways to build a solid brand and gain a following. A well-crafted speech or a webinar is also an innovative way to pull in clients. The problem is that most entrepreneurs are so busy running their businesses they don’t have the time it takes to write all this content.

Not all entrepreneurs are writers and therefore they don’t have the skills to produce impactful content. In fact, a badly written article or book can actually damage a brand more than it can help. When it comes to branding, this is the one time that bad press isn’t always good press.

This is where a ghostwriter or a daixie comes in. Not only will a ghostwriter save you time, but they will also produce professional content that drives traffic to your brand. A ghostwriter is the man/woman behind the man/woman. Many celebrities use ghostwriters on their social media pages, for their books, and more, and entrepreneurs have been following suit. To succeed in business, content should never be thought of as a side note. It’s often more important than advertising.

Back in the day, an entrepreneur only had advertising in newspapers, TV, and radio to bring in customers. They devoted a large budget to advertising for this purpose. Today, with the internet at our fingertips and social media reigning as king, it’s not enough to just run an ad when your competitors are posting a steady stream of content daily. A good ghostwriter will not only write, they will help come up with ideas, they will put a new spin on old information, and they will use their expertise with SEO to produce content that ranks high on Google’s algorithms.

It’s important when hiring a ghostwriter to set up a contract and sign an NDA to protect yourself. The contract is important to set expectations with quality, pay, writing credits, and rights ownership. The NDA (non-disclosure agreement) is where you ensure that you own the rights to all content once you pay the ghostwriter. Some ghostwriters may ask for a byline, writing credit, or royalties, and it’s entirely up to you whether you want to provide that or not, but it should be clearly outlined in the contract before any work is ever done. In fact, it’s a great idea to have a preliminary phone call to get to know your ghostwriter and familiarize them with your business and goals.

Most ghostwriters charge a flat fee per project, with bigger projects having payable milestones. This should all be negotiated before entering into a contract. Keep in mind that a good ghostwriter is worth their weight in gold and you’ll get a great return on your investment. Never has it been more important to deliver, not only well-written content but useful content. You want to be informative yet interesting, sometimes even entertaining.

When Poo-Pourri showed a woman sitting on a toilet talking about smelly poops and how to deal with it, their profits skyrocketed. The content was informative but very entertaining, so much so that people still remember it. Now that’s great content, and it was probably written by a ghostwriter.

It’s important to remember that not all ghostwriters are created equal. A ghostwriter who writes mainly novels or screenplays may not be the best ghostwriter for social media posts or writing case studies. This is where your due diligence and one-on-one meetings come into play. If your business is in the medical field, you may want to find a ghostwriter who is familiar with the terms or who is an excellent researcher.

With the influx of AI-generating tools hitting the market, you may have considered it for your writing needs, but keep in mind that today there is no AI tool that can replace a good ghostwriter. If you want content that is general and not geared toward your product or service, AI might, and the word might is key here, deliver. However, if you’re seeking content that is specific to you from someone who is highly skilled at delivering exactly that, then a human ghostwriter is the way to go.

So, if you’re an entrepreneur looking to make your mark and stand out, someone who wants to drive more traffic, look into hiring a ghostwriter. You’ll be happy, and more profitable if you do!
