Great Posture! This Is How to Sit Properly at a Desk

Back pain is more common than you think. In the United States, up to 80% of individuals will experience it at some point in their lives.

Frequent causes include muscle tension, damaged disks, and strained muscles. Not only that, but it can also result from poor posture.

Do you spend hours sitting at a desk in front of a computer? Do you want to know how to sit properly at a desk?

If so, you’re on the right page. We’ll be sharing some tips below. Find out what they are by reading the rest of the post!

Support Your Back

Choose a chair that offers proper back support. That way, you won’t have to worry about straining your back. Trust us; it can be quite painful.

Depending on the severity of the pain, you might even need to wear a back brace. For more information, you can check it out at ReVITALize Rehab Club.

Place Your Monitor at Eye Level

Your monitor should be directly in front of you. The top of the screen should be slightly below or at eye level.

You don’t want it to be too high or low as it’ll cause you to bend your neck, which can cause discomfort over time.

Have Your Keyboard in Front of You

Place your keyboard so that it’s straight in front of you. When typing, keep your upper arms close to your body; your hands should be at the level of your elbows.

Tip: Consider using a wrist rest—this will keep your wrist straight, which will help prevent strain.

Place Your Mouse Within Easy Reach

Keep the mouse as close to you as possible. It should be at the same height as the keyboard. Also, it helps to adjust the sensitivity of the mouse so that you can operate it with a light touch.

Avoid gripping the mouse too tightly as that can cause pain and injury; you want your hand to be in a relaxed position.

Take Regular Breaks

Try not to sit in the same position for too long. If you can, take a short break every 15 minutes (at the very least, look away from the computer screen).

For example, it helps to stand up and move around as that will help ease the muscles in your back and neck.

Avoid Screen Reflection

Too much glare can strain your eyes. Given that, you want to do whatever you can to reduce it.

For instance, you can adjust the brightness and contrast on the monitor. There are also anti-glare filters that you can put on your screen.
