Five Common Mistakes to Avoid in Your Next Landscape Design Project

Agree to it or not, building a nicely planned landscape can make your property look a million dollar worth. It can add life to your old and boring house interiors and contribute to an increase in its value overall. Besides, it can help elevate the disease symptoms that you have been struggling for long. All thanks to the flora in the surroundings, you can experience better indoor air quality and health.

However, there are design nuances that have to be taken into account so that you don’t mess up your budget. Landscape installation is a significant investment, and the more attention you pay to it, the better are the outcomes. Of course, there is a scope of some unpleasant surprises and a few mistakes on the way but worry not, everything can be fixed.

Here are some mistakes and the ways to overcome them –

  1. Planning Without a Realistic Budget

For the ones investing in a landscape for the first time, it is important to know that landscaping can cost significant times more than any other home improvement job. And if you don’t have a properly evaluated budget beforehand, you can end up spending more than your financial limit. So, the moment you plan to start your landscape design project firstly set a budget and keep a 10-15% margin for unexpected issues.

  1. Buying Everything Big

With a huge lawn in your view, you might want to buy the biggest plants and shrubs available. You may probably think it can make your garden look mature and well-grown and provide greater privacy; however, it may not make much sense in actuality as it can cost you around four times than freshly blooming one. Hence, you should start with small plants – you won’t see much difference after a year or two.

  1. Overcrowding the Plantation

Plants are living beings like us, and they grow too. If you don’t remember this when choosing them, you will soon see your garden bed full of weeds and your landscape a complete mess. Due to that, you may be forced to pull out your favorite pots that you paid hundreds of bucks for. To avoid that from happening, leave a few bare spots when planting your garden to let the flora breathe.

  1. Choosing Style Over Comfort

This is especially the case with outdoor furniture. People often choose pieces that are either on the trendier side or just highly-durable. In both cases, the element of comfort often gets missed and the seating arrangement is not all relaxing for the guests. Though weather resistance factor is the most crucial, you don’t have to skip padding, cushions, and pillows for that matter.

  1. Not Connecting Indoors with Outdoors

Your outdoor landscape must be a visual extension of adjacent rooms, and if you skip that, you are surely up for some blunder. If the colors, textures and style of your indoors don’t complement the outdoor materials choices, then all the expenses and planning fails. So, sit with an experienced landscape designer and match the interior decorating style to furniture, plants, partitions, and decor outside.
