In buildings, in houses, and within the outside spaces of our towns and cities, there are so many fantastic inventions everywhere that we never really spot unless we’re looking for them. They’re under our radar all the time. But when we start looking for these fantastic devices, they really do become quite obvious.
So here is a list of nine fantastic inventions that you never noticed on your everyday commute to work in the city.
1. Contact Lenses
Loads of people wear contact lenses. In fact, 45 million people in the US wear contact lenses alone – so imagine how many people wear contact lenses in your city? It’s certainly an invention that we overlook, which is the hallmark of an invention that is perfectly designed.
2. Automated Doors Systems
Automated door systems are everywhere, but we never notice them. We simply walk through them with ease. However, these types of doors are the mechanisms that automatically open and close doors, which makes our busy life in the city just that little bit easier.
3. Digital TV Screens
We don’t really notice them, but they are there! In our boss’s conference room, in the lobby, and even outside, advertising new products and stores or broadcasting informative programs like the news. They’re everywhere.
4. Mechanical Pencils
Mechanical pencils are everywhere in the city office, but it’s likely that you never really noticed these spring-powered pencils. They’re really handy, and not just for architects or designers – so it’s good to keep an eye out and pick one up for yourself.
5. Wrist Watches
With the rise in the convenience of phones, loads of people don’t use wristwatches anymore. At least, that’s what you think. Keep your eyes peeled for watches – they’re still everywhere and are a very handy invention and fashion accessory too.
6. Security Cameras
You might not think about this one often, but security cameras are everywhere. Many buildings have security cameras in every room to monitor and protect people. Sometimes they can be really subtle, and their designs can be really cool too.
Dentures are often associated with the more elderly in our society, but they’re not just limited to them. Plenty of people have them, and they are a very interesting invention that slides under most people’s radar.
8. Street Food Carts
It used to be the case that when we wanted to have lunch, we’d have to queue to buy a sandwich from the local store. However, street food vendors mean that we can pick up a cheap and fast meal and be able to choose a variety of different cuisines from around the world each day.
9. Drawing Tablets
Drawing tablets are a relatively new invention taking the city by storm, but they’re also very useful. Artists, architects, and the simple doodler can now be spotted all over the city using these electronic tablets to create amazing artwork that can instantly be shared and used digitally.
