A Magic Carpet Ride – Eye-Catching Trends in Carpeting 2020

Want to go on a magic carpet ride? After years of watching FLIPs and Renovations on popular TV shows or videos where hardwood floors Calgary and tile have been the “go-to” options for flooring, it is surprising to learn that carpet tiles is returning to be a popular flooring choice.  Nothing feels better than getting out of bed and putting warm tootsies on a cold hard floor. No? Perhaps there is a good reason for the return of the softer option.  Actually, there are several reasons, and they can easily be identified in the 2020 trends in carpeting.

In the 21st Century, making purchase decisions based on the impact on the environment is very much the norm.  Going “green” – not the color, but the concept – runs true for choosing flooring options as well. Therefore, it makes sense that carpets made of natural fibers such as seagrass, sisal, and jute have become hot commodities. These natural fibers are woven from grasses grown in monsoon areas and are sustainably sourced.  Wool is another eco-friendly carpeting option, as wool is a renewable resource. These fibers are biodegradable and can be made water and stain-resistant as well.

It is important to note that although eco-friendly flooring is trending right now, Nylon carpet is still an outstanding favorite.  It gives one of the best “bangs for your buck” solutions on the market.  Nylon is resilient and resistant to smells, dust, dander, mold, and mildew. It also resists spills and stains.  Another synthetic carpet similar to Nylon that has recently come on the market is called Triexta.  Triexta possesses many of the same qualities as Nylon, including stain resistance.

Carpet tiles are trending.  Carpet tiles are eco-friendly because you can easily replace a single damaged carpet tile instead of having to replace the entire carpet. It is also user friendly as you can easily clean spills and stains by pulling up soiled tiles and wiping up any mess.  Colors, patterns, and prints offer a colorful palette to go along with the endless creative options they offer. This design flexibility is another reason why carpet tiles are considered an eye-catching carpeting trend in 2020.

When choosing carpet as a flooring option, it is often the texture that draws a buyer.  Consumers want to feel luxurious softness while also enjoying the lavish look that a plush carpet can create in a room. There is nothing quite like a soft carpet to walk on. It just makes you feel all cuddly.

The aesthetic of the carpet is where the new trends really stand out.  The colors vary from natural beiges to lush jewel tones.  Patterns are imaginative: bright and colorful flower patterns, different geometrics, and fun prints. Animal prints are on-trend, not the usual zebra and leopard prints, but fawn, snake and antelope. The new geometrics are creative indeed. Some repeat blocks give off a 3D visual look. A chain-link pattern on a similar colored backdrop is a great neutral starting point for a maximalism room.  Maximalism is a decorating trend that has one breaking the design rules for the which is another trend in decorating, which includes the carpeting.

Another “outside of the box” idea is using outdoor carpet indoors.  New styles and products allow one to be even more innovative in their decorating plans.  Outdoor carpet is a perfect fit for entryways or other spaces where people track in moisture from rain, mud, and snow. Use outdoor carpet in spaces where cleaning seems non-stop, such as laundry rooms, porches, or recreation rooms. It is also easy to clean and is long-lasting. It is designed to stand up to adverse weather conditions and is dirt and moisture resistant.  The construction of outdoor carpets makes them surprisingly soft, so they feel fantastic under your feet.

All in all, the use of carpet as a viable flooring option is a trend in itself.  In 2020, there is a lot to be excited about when choosing carpet.  The trends promote numerous creative avenues that are available at various price points.
