Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a man’s inability to achieve or maintain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Men are usually able to achieve erections during their teenage years and young adulthood, but it is unusual for men older than 55 years to have erections every time they want one.

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, around five percent of 40-year-old men and between 15 percent and 25 percent of 65-year-old men experience ED on a long-term basis. Male enhancement procedures and lifestyle changes may be able to help with ED.

What Causes High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so people may not know they have it until they have a stroke or heart attack. High blood pressure is called the “silent killer” because you might not know you have it until serious damage occurs.

Signs of high blood pressure include:

  • Headache
  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Nosebleeds
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pain in your legs when walking

If you have these signs, it doesn’t mean you have high blood pressure. Many people have one or more of these signs and don’t have high blood pressure. Call your doctor if the above symptoms are ongoing.

If you’re traveling and you experience any emergency medical conditions, check this site to help you find the nearest clinic, pharmacies, and other health/medical centers that you can visit.

How ED and Hypertension Overlap

In the past, several studies showed a link between ED in men and high blood pressure (hypertension). Blood flow is reduced when high blood pressure damages arteries that nourish the penis. For an erection, the penis needs good blood flow.

This damage can result in ED. If you have ED, it is unlikely to improve until your blood pressure is under control. But treating your high blood pressure may not guarantee sexual improvement; you still need to follow a treatment plan for ED.

If you are dealing with the following issues, it can affect both your blood pressure and ED:

  • Atherosclerosis
  • Smoking and/or tobacco use
  • High cholesterol
  • Obesity
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Stress
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Alcohol abuse

Excessive or heavy drinking can cause blood pressure to spike. If you regularly consume more than two drinks a day, your risk of developing high blood pressure increases. Your doctor may advise you to limit your alcohol intake to no more than one drink a day.

Treatment Options for ED and High Blood Pressure

First, see your doctor for a complete checkup, especially if you have early symptoms of ED. Together, you and your doctor can make a personalized treatment plan to treat both high blood pressure and ED.

In most cases of mild or moderate hypertension, lifestyle changes may be enough to lower blood pressure levels and relieve symptoms of ED.

CBD Oil

CBD oil may help relieve symptoms of ED. If you wonder how to use CBD oil for erectile dysfunction, it is quite simple. Existing evidence suggests that oral ingestion of this oil has led to improvements in ED, as well as improvement in mood.

CBD oil is a soft, edible hemp extract with a nutty flavor. It contains cannabinoids that have been studied for their possible effects on several health conditions, including anxiety and high blood pressure.

Diet Changes

The first line of treatment for high blood pressure often involves weight loss and exercise. Sodium and potassium intake may affect your blood pressure. Keep track of how much sodium you eat and follow a low-sodium diet. Also, adding potassium to your diet can help lower your blood pressure.

Keeping a food diary will help you keep track of the sodium and potassium levels in your favorite foods. If necessary, ask about salt substitutes or take supplements to make up for any nutrients you might lose by restricting your intake of these minerals.

Eating fruits and vegetables also help lower blood pressure because they contain antioxidants that protect against damage to the blood vessels.

Consider Male Enhancement

As mentioned before, male enhancement procedures, such as penile injections and vacuum devices can help manage ED.

There are also vacuum constriction devices (VCD), where a small pump is connected to a semi-rigid ring or band that is placed around the base of the penis. When the pump is engaged, it draws blood into the penis to create an erection that can be maintained by slipping off the band or ring.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there is hope if you are a man dealing with ED and hypertension. Talk to your doctor about the possible connection between ED and high blood pressure. Treatment options include lifestyle changes and medications, including oral forms of erectile dysfunction drugs or natural options like CBD oil.
