A major marina overhaul is changing the Mediterranean winter yachting scene. One marquee port invested €20 million into infrastructure upgrades, expanding capacity and adding 23 berths for vessels up to 70 metres. This move reflects growing demand for winter-season berthing among superyachts and signals renewed focus on marina capacity across the region.

That upgrade comes amid significant expansion across the Mediterranean marina network. The group D‑Marin recently reported offering over 1,000 specialised superyacht berths across its marinas in 2025 a sign that port infrastructure is scaling with the growing global yacht fleet.

For charter operators and high-net-worth clients, the new capacity reduces pressure on traditional hotspots. This creates opportunities for off-peak travel and alternative cruising itineraries. Some are now choosing quieter routes and shorter-notice bookings. Many Travellers decide on a Kolymvari luxury boat cruise to Agioi Theodoroi to avoid congestion and enjoy smoother, more flexible sea-routes.

The upgraded marinas offer more than berths. They typically include modern refuelling systems, improved dockside services, and refit facilities, all of which influence charter choices, especially for larger vessels. Ports investing in deeper draft access and infrastructure adaptation are gaining preference among captains and owners.

What This Means for the Market

  • The expansion eases a longstanding bottleneck for superyachts in the Mediterranean. With more berths available, winter and off-peak cruising may become more viable and attractive.
  • Charter demand may diversify. Instead of packing into summer hotspots, clients may spread activity across the year and favour lesser-known ports.
  • Marinas that invest early in infrastructure upgrades may gain competitive advantage by attracting larger yachts and high-end charters looking for reliability and comfort.

Kamnaki Maria, Reservation Manager at DanEri Yachts, offers this perspective:

“More berths means more freedom; owners and charterers no longer need to compete for space. When clients look for flexibility, a destination with modern marina infrastructure becomes more appealing. For travellers booking a Kolymvari luxury boat cruise to Agioi Theodoroi, the new marina model offers ease of access, less crowding and a smooth start to the sea journey.”
