DO’S AND DON’TS: Insurance Claims

THE DO’s

DO call your agent as soon as a covered event takes place. As soon as you get home from the car accident, or even before you go to the doctor, call your agent.

Insurance Claims are filed by an individual, group or business that claims to have been the victim of an accident that involves negligence on the part of a person or organization. It may be that an individual has met with an accident and has sustained injuries or even died while at work. An insurance company may then pay you a sum of money in order to settle the claim. Insurance companies also use these claims to evaluate their risk in paying you a claim as they can easily see how much of a chance of recuperation they would have if you went to work again without first having to pay for all your medical bills and damaged property. If you file for insurance claims, the insurance adjuster will then visit your workplace to gather information about the accident and the circumstances of the incident so that they can process your claim properly.

When you file insurance claims, you will need to know the details of what happened so that the insurance company will know what they are responsible for. In most cases, it is important to keep all the records of your trip and report all expenses, such as gas, car rental, hotel, meals, and any other expenditures incurred while traveling. Make sure you report to the insurance company no matter where you go. In many states, even if the insured party cannot actually be present when the report is given, the policy still requires that you make a report to them within a certain amount of time. In most cases, this will be a couple of days but in some instances, it can be more depending on the extent of the natural disaster and the time between the occurrence and when you seek treatment.

THE DON’Ts

DON’T give any recorded or written statements to your insurer until you are sure you understand your coverage. Remember you are not required to allow the insurance company to record your telephone conversation. If you have doubts, do consult a car accident attorney.

Insurance claims can also be filed for health insurance claims. The insurance company will cover the cost of your doctor’s bills and any other medical expense that you sustain because of your injury. There are specific guidelines as to what health insurance claims are eligible for and what they are not. Many injuries can result in payments for future medical care but there are some that cannot. For example, a car accident is generally not eligible for health insurance claims.

Most life insurance policies do not cover losses at the hands of an insured party. For this reason, insurance claims for loss of life insurance policies are particularly important. If your policy expires and you have lost coverage, there are avenues you can take. One option is to file a wrongful death claim with the Insurance Department. It is possible for you to file a claim for compensation from the person who has died as a result of your actions.

Not everyone is aware that an insurance claim is a formal request from the insured party to the insurance company for compensation. This request is usually accompanied by a money settlement offer. If the offer is accepted, the money will be paid to the victim or victims. Insurance companies will evaluate the request and determine whether it is worth pursuing or not.

Insurance claims can often make the difference between receiving your benefits and not getting them. For this reason, it is very important that anyone who becomes involved in an accident involving negligence should consult a qualified insurance attorney. Insurance attorneys can provide advice about the best course of action in addressing insurance issues, including filing a lawsuit. In some cases, they can even represent an injured person in court. They can also provide information on how to stop or reduce future insurance claims.
