David Arthur Sikes – Excelling in the Musical Scene with Great Fervor

Music has long been a staple of the entertainment industry. People are so enamored with music that they can’t imagine their lives without it. Listening to music helps calm an individual’s soul and mind. It has been believed that music refreshes an individual’s mind and serves as a stress reliever for those whose lives have become monotonous due to a hectic schedule.

Music systems nowadays come with a variety of features and enhancements, as well as proper bass, vibe, and treble, such that they have a higher level of sonic resolution. While listening, one can arrange their music tracks in the order of their preference. When planning a party, it can also be used as a disc jockey. Another important feature introduced in these systems is karaoke. This feature displays the lyrics of the song being played to the listener, increasing their interest even further. Furthermore, a listener can sing along with the same beats and rhythm.

Rock is a genre that has permeated the society and is regarded as a universal genre. Rock can be traced back to 1955 when it was known as rock ‘n’ roll. The appeal of rock to teenagers was what made it so popular. Everyone had their own perception of rock music, as it’s very different from the music adults enjoyed listening to. Grown-ups, particularly adults, saw rock ‘n’ roll as “an expected threat to youngsters” because it could lead to juvenile delinquency or, worse, at the time, encourage delinquent attitudes and behaviors. Rock was initially perceived as something new, fresh, and exciting. Given this fact, many musicians entered the fold of rock music; one such individual is David Arthur Sikes.

Sikes, who was born in England to an English mother and an American father, moved to Suisun City, California, with his family when he was a child. He went to Crescent and Crystal Elementary School, as well as Sullivan Middle School, Sem Yeto Continuation High School, and Solano College, where he majored in Music. After a few years as a music student at Solano College, Sikes moved to Berkeley, where he became a regular on the bay area music scene, playing with many local bands and eventually joining the band Kid Courage, where he contributed bass and backing vocals for two tracks, including “I Don’t Wanna Dance” and “I’m A Fanatic.”

Later that year, Sikes joined the rock band Boston as a bassist. After leaving the Los Angeles band Giuffria, he played bass on their album Silk & Steel. The following year, he performed his first show with Boston at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

After unleashing the diversity of music, he started to become exhausted by life on the road. Sikes was holed up in his private suite at the Ritz Carlton in West Palm Beach, FL., on his last tour in support of Boston’s 1997 “Greatest Hits” album, pining to be back home in Benicia, where he lives with his wife and two young children.

“We had three days off, right on the beach,” Sikes says. “I’m sitting there thinking, ‘Man, what wouldn’t I give to be eating a hot dog in my kitchen at home right now!’ If you can’t enjoy a beachfront suite any longer, it’s time to leave.”

So, at the age of 42, he left Boston after the group’s 20th-anniversary tour ended. He was tired of being contractually obligated to a rock band that sometimes went seven years between albums. Tired of the erratic nature of the music business, and of not having a steady income, he decided to open an insurance agency in Vallejo, California. This was the first step in his transition into a new industry. He currently manages his insurance company and still records and performs music.

Despite leaving the greatest venture of his life, Sikes still participates in fundraising concerts for Saint Jude Hospital, Vallejo Community Arts, Ukraine, and others, proving his dedication and passion for music.
