Common Plumbing Problems Homeowners Need to Know About

Moving from an apartment or a rental to a home you own is a big step. Owning your own home can be rewarding but it can also come with new challenges. When living in a rental, a landlord usually takes care of all plumbing issues, but once you own your own place, you’ll need to take care of those problems on your own. Here are some of the most common plumbing problems to watch out for and how to take care of them.

Table of Contents

Clogged Toilet

One of the most common problems out there is a clogged toilet. Toilets can be clogged by a number of things, but some of the most common things that clog toilets are wads of toilet paper or wipes that were not meant to be flushed. However, if your toilet gets clogged often, then you may have more serious sewer-related problems to deal with.

If your toilet is clogged because of too much toilet paper, the best and easiest way to fix it is to simply use a toilet plunger. Put a decent amount of pressure on the plunger to make sure it gets enough air down the pipes to break up the clog. If a plunger cannot fix your clog, then you may have a serious sewer problem. IN this case, you will need some sewer repair products, such as pumps or ventilators. Since these are specialty pieces of equipment, you may want to call a professional if you are worried that something is wrong with your sewer.

Dripping Faucet

Another common plumbing problem is a leaking or dripping faucet. No matter whether the sink is in the bathroom or elsewhere, the first thing you will want to do is turn off the water to the sink. Next, take off the faucet itself. There will likely be several parts to the faucet.

Once everything is removed, check to see if there are any cracks in any of the pieces. If so, you will need to replace them. If many parts are broken, then it may be best just to buy a new faucet. If none of the parts are broken, then the faucet may have been leaking because some parts were loose. So, when you put the faucet back together, make sure to put all the pieces tightly together, so there is no space for water to leak out.

Now you know how to solve two of the most common plumbing problems! Master these plumbing skills and you’ll be a more responsible homeowner!
