CBD – Is CBD A Safe Way to Treat Epilepsy?

CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol. It is a rare phytocannabinoid found in 1930. It accounts for around 40% of the cannabis plant’s total extract and is one of the most potent plant inhibitors of psychoactive properties.

A non-psychoactive compound, CBD has been found to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, sedative, anti-spastic, neuroprotective, anti-psychotic, and anti-seizure properties. Some medical experts consider CBD as a potential treatment for epilepsy due to the many neurogenic and neurochemical effects it has on various brain cells.

In medical studies, CBD was shown to reduce seizure activity in mice with seizures. This was done using a very high dose of CBD. The mice were placed in a chamber where they could freely move their limbs and could eat, drink, or urinate. CBD was then injected into the mice for a period of time that lasted several days.

When the mice were evaluated again, they had significantly fewer seizures than the mice who did not receive the CBD injections. Other behavioral tests showed an improvement in the mice’s ability to walk and run, as well as decreases in the number of bouts of aggressive behavior and hyperactivity. The effects of CBD on mice were similar to the effects of epilepsy.

The results of medical studies are still preliminary and more research must be carried out in humans to determine if this compound is effective as a treatment for epilepsy. However, the research is encouraging.

More clinical trials are planned and trials may even be done in animals to see how well CBD can affect them. It may take a few years before we can say definitively that CBD can treat epilepsy, but for now there is evidence to suggest that CBD could be beneficial for people suffering from this disease.

Because CBD is still listed as a Schedule I drug by the federal government, it is prohibited from being used recreationally or medically. Even in states that allow medical marijuana, CBD is still considered illegal. There are still laws against the use of CBD in ingestible forms, although some states are beginning to loosen their rules.

Because of the lack of studies, there is some controversy among the scientific community about the effects of CBD. The lack of scientific data may also result in claims by users that the effects are only temporary and will go away once the medication is stopped. While this may be true to a certain extent, more studies need to be conducted before the results of medical trials can be proven.

For those who are interested in trying CBD, there are many products available that claim to have medical benefits. There are many online stores where the product can be purchased without having to consult a physician. There are also products that claim to contain CBD that is available over-the-counter or from the internet without a prescription.
