Careers in telecom What makes it an ideal time to start a career in telecom?

The fact that nearly everyone has a mobile phone today and the ongoing digitization of India is the most crucial reason why this is among the most exciting times to be working in the telecom sector.

The telecommunications industry comprises the entire spectrum of internet and phone service providers, who significantly improve mobile communication. It includes voice calls, emails, texting, videos, and images. The growing popularity of this sector is the requirement for skilled workers to support that growth in the most efficient way possible.

Define the telecommunications industry’s current situation and its growth process within India.

Santanu Bhattacharya, the telecom sector in India, has experienced tremendous growth these two years. In FY07-16*, India’s phone subscriber base grew at a Compound Annual Rate (CAGR) range of 19.5 percent to 1,022.61 million, and teledensity reached 80.98 (ref. http://www.ibef.org).

  • This increase is due to the increasing use of smartphones and other services, internet (broadband) connection, and related services.
  • This pattern of growth and speed is expected to continue for the next two decades due to an increase in sales of smartphones as well as 3G and 4G services and the increasing penetration of rural telecom services.
  • Telecommunications is an industry in which technology is evolving quickly, transforming old technologies that cannot provide current, vital, and lifestyle-oriented services (e.g., the use of WhatsApp and banking services, mobile phones as cameras, etc.)
  • Therefore, the need for skilled workers in all telecom areas will remain more than what the present telecom training courses or development systems could offer.
