**India**

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is held every four years. The first IMO was held in France in 1948, and it became an international competition. Around 400 contestants from all over the world participated as part of the first IMO. It attracted many notable mathematicians such as John von Neumann, Hermann Weyl, and Otto Toeplitz.

The first International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) was held in India in 1952 and since then, it has been organized every alternate year. The first IMO for the Kerala University was held on 25–26 July 1952. Participants from all over the country participated and more than 300 participants were recorded at that event. At that time, there were no qualifying tests for entry to the IMO as such examinations did not exist yet. The IMO used to select students by conducting all-India examinations under the supervision of the Indian Mathematical Society.

Today, there are five national-level contests held in India every year at state, city, and school levels.

Thiruvananthapuram – The All Kerala Inter-University Mathematics Olympiad is represented by the state universities.

Bangalore – The Karnataka Mathematics Olympiad (KMO) is for high school students.

Hyderabad – The Srinivasa Ramanujan Mathematical Talent Contest (SRMT) is also for high school students.

Chennai – The Tamil Nadu Mathematics Olympiad (TNMO) is for school students.

**National Level Test:**

This test is conducted in April or May to evaluate the preparedness of the participants for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) to be held in June. The test is conducted at a national level and is a qualifying test. It usually consists of approximately 1000 questions that cover topics from algebra, geometry, calculus, and some problem-solving techniques.
