Basically the pH score should be between 6.5 and 7.8, and the hardness of the water must be between 50 to 100 ppm. The alkalinity score should be between 54 to 144 ppm, Nitrates and phosphates score should be below 10 ppm and 0.5 ppm. Most importantly, the temperature should be between 74° to 80° F.

In the market, you will see different types of substrates. But you must avoid dolomite, crushed coral, crushed oyster shells, or other calcium carbonate-based substrates. If you use those then the water alkalinity and pH score will rise high.
